Youth Leader Update 20/06/19

Dear Youth Leader,

Winter Solstice is around the corner and the days will soon be getting longer. Despite the extended darkness, we pray that you are going well in your ministry and that it is being led by Christ’s light! This month we have some important ACYF updates, some resources from our LEAD day and new chapter summaries of Christus Vivit.

God Bless,
The AOY team

P.S. Did you know there has been an addition at the AOY? We welcome Anthony Kelly to the team as the Eastern Youth Ministry Consultant as Kath Spencer focuses on Communications until the Festival.

We hope you were all able to join us last month for our information sessions. We are beginning to receive registrations for pilgrims who have secured their seats on the plane to Perth. In order to guarantee your seat on the plane to Perth, we need you to turn those maybes into YES! We are asking you to register your group with Harvest and book your ACYF place by 30 June. Final payments and names are not due until 2 September. If your parish has does not want to bring a group, don't forget that your young people can individually register with the Melbourne Collective Group (MCG) and join in! We are also excited to announce that Catholic Education Melbourne is offering a subsidy to any student in a Catholic Secondary School with in the Archdiocese of Melbourne regardless of whether they are attending the Melbourne Pilgrimage with their school, another group or the MCG. Conditions apply, stay tuned to our website for more details next week!

With only 170 days until Festival, it gives you just enough time to raise some funds to help pay for your pilgrims! As you know, we have our Fundraising Guide HERE as well as some additional fun ideas HERE. The AOY also has a template to help you find pilgrim sponsors. Simply download the voucher sheet HERE, print it to A3 (two sheets), trim up the tickets and you are ready to sell. Ask you Parish Priest if you can talk at Mass for just two minutes and tell everyone why you want to attend the Festival and a little about it. After Mass, set yourself up at a table and see if parishioners will help you to get to Festival.

If you’re wondering just who you will see at Festival, you might just see this duo team up… Fr Rob Galea will be there along with musician and rapper from the US, Joe Melendrez… check out this clip from when they paired up HERE you may have even seen Joe at the Aussie gathering in Panama on stage. You might not know but you will be inspired by Grace Forrest – co-founder of the walk free foundation who campaign to end modern slavery. Grace, like the young people at the Festival could be a participant herself at only 26 years of age. She will share her story at the Festival… see a snippet HERE And last but not least is the effervescent and joyous Katie Prejean, checkout a clip HERE

Four FREE passes to attend Chosen Conference

Jesus Youth are once again hosting their 4-day, live out conference for young adults, from 4-7 July. AOY have four free tickets valued at $200 each available as a giveaway. For more info about the conference visit HERE. To take up this offer, email the AOY HERE or call 9287 5551 before 30 June.
As you may have seen, the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act came into effect yesterday, Wednesday 19 June 2019. This law legalises euthanasia and assisted suicide in Victoria. In anticipation of the changes this brings, and the questions your young people may have about this, we encourage you to take some time to read this pastoral letter and resource written by the bishops of Victoria. More info and resources can be found www.cam.org.au/euthanasia
