You there!

Here in Melbourne it's cold. Almost...too...cold. But we're beavering away at our third and final big reveal for 2019 coming in a matter of weeks, so until then I just keep a small text document of things to write about in here to help fill the white space and not make our layout look weird.

Unfortunately I've been so busy thinking about not being cold and my amazing bedtime routing that the only thing I have there is a note that makes absolutely no sense in retrospect. It just reads 'Pools should be warm'. I'm sure that I had a great insight at the time which would unspool to great humorous effect, but it's totally lost on me now. But really though, pools should be warm, so maybe that's enough for now?

In other news, JWGYTB is back for our eighth season this week! We're taking a bit of a new slimmed down approach this season as Lara joins us remotely from her travels so I hope you like it, as we have so many open tabs to share with you!

Until then, I'll be stuck in this wormhole of California real estate listings which gives me such strange feelings of good and bad all at once that just really confuses me.

I'll tell you what isn't confusing though, the high quality of the work that our artists continue to somehow conjure from their magical brains and hands. Go on, have a look below and then get back to whatever you were doing.

The Podcast

While we’re taking our little podcast break we thought we’d bring you a JWGYTB throwback! This week we’re heading back to Episode 55 with Elliott Burford, where we go through our open tabs and discuss Podcasting Apps, Inspiration Overload, and Personal Brands

“A lot of the time we look for people who have flexibility who can do a few different things, because a lot of the projects we’re working on are kind of amorphous so we’re not really sure what we’re looking for to begin with.”

// Elliott Burford

Each week on our podcast we dissect three links we’ve come across our internet travels. These are jumping off points for what’s shaping issues, processes and happenings in the creative industries today. To find our more about our IRL open tabs events, visit opentabs.rodeo

We discuss 'What Happens When People and Companies Are Both Just ‘Brands’?'

We compare our favourite podcasting apps with Medium article 'Redesigning the Apple Podcast app'

We have a look at the 'Design Debate: Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Inspiration?'

Q: What's your earliest drawing memory?

"One day when I was in kindergarten, we made those laminated double-sided placemats. I was so anally retentive, I drew the exact same scene of a house with 5 pink flowers and 1 blue flower on BOTH sides of the placemat. It was perfect."

The Gallery

Lamington Drive is an exhibition space, art school and a great way to meet other artists. Feeling lonely? Come to a show!

Lamington Drive Residency

LDR operates in two parts – 4 emerging illustrators and image-makers will work in-residence at the gallery for a duration of 8 weeks, encouraging on-site production and exploration (which will be open to the eyes of the public throughout).

This is followed by a dedicated group exhibition of the finished work created in that time, opening mid August.

Come down to the gallery between 11-6pm Wednesdays through Fridays and 12-5 Saturdays to check out what our residents are getting up to!

The above artwork is by current LD resident Ryan A. McShane.

The Gardens

Clear the mind. Feed the process. Jacky Winter Gardens is a creative retreat nestled in a half-acre of natural bushland only 45 minutes from Melbourne. It’s a perfect getaway for solo travellers, couples and small groups.

"The Louvre is a good book to consult, but it must only be an intermediary. The real and immense study that must be taken up is the manifold picture of nature."
