Workforce update
NHS Long term plan
The NHS Interim workforce plan, including a medical workforce plan,
is now available. Unsurprisingly recruitment and retention are key priorities, together with increasing skill mix. Items of interest to us include:
- Increasing support for SAS doctors incl re-opening of the Associate Specialist grade
- Roll out of credentialing for specific skills
- Better opportunities for pausing training and for stepping in and out of training programmes
- Better opportunities for Foundation doctors to experience in ‘hard to recruit’ specialties and geographical areas (GP and psychiatry are named, but not paediatrics. However the long term plan does identify ‘community health’ as a priority)
Shortage occupation list
The Migration Advisory Committee has advised that ALL medical grades and specialties be added to the
Shortage Occupation List.

Your responses will be very useful for our progress in this.
Please could you complete the survey by 23rd July 2019.
