News

LIVERPOOL MARATHON IN AID OF AUTISM GUERNSEY

Rebecca Lesley kindly ran the Liverpool Marathon in aid of Autism Guernsey and raised over £200 for the Charity.  Well done Lesley and thank you so much for supporting us.

GUERNSEY LANDMARKS QUIZ 2019

Thank you to everybody who bought one of our Quiz sheets.  We hope you enjoyed taking part, even though the photos were a tad small!

We raised £830.
FASHION SHOW & AUCTION
Our Annual Fashion Show & Auction was a sell-out and thanks to the sponsorship from Skipton International we raised an incredible £4,400.  Thank you to everybody who took part and those who supported the event.  We are looking forward to next year.

We still have a number of evening dresses, both short and long, available for sale in our office in sizes 8 to 22. Therefore if you need a ball gown or evening dress please contact us to arrange a viewing.
AUTISM-FRIENDLY SPORTS

Thanks to the generosity of Rothschild Trust (now known as Sequent), we have been able to continue to offer sports taster sessions to children and young people on the autism spectrum.  These have included wall climbing, archery, gym, badminton and soft play, with more to be organised.
BRISTOL CUTTERS

The children and young people from our Amazing Clubs were delighted to recently have had the opportunity to sail on a Bristol Cutter.  The boat trip was specifically for individuals with autism and was therefore autism-friendly.
NAS TEEN LIFE TRAINING PROGRAMME

We are extremely grateful to the Christmas Lottery for awarding us a grant to bring over a Facilitator from the National Autistic Society in the UK to train our staff and other third sectors in the Teen Life Programme.

This two day course will result in the delegates receiving a 3 year licence to hold their own workshops for parents of young people on the spectrum aged between 10 to 16 years.

The programme aims to empower parents to understand more about how autism is experienced by autistic teenagers.  Useful strategies will be discussed along with the opportunity to share ideas of how to support the autistic person through their teen years.
SLEEP BETTER TRAINING

Following the successful two day training course in the Sleep Well Programme funded by Only Fools & Donkeys, Autism Guernsey will shortly be holding their own workshops for parents of children and young people on the Autism spectrum.  Delivery of the workshops will be sponsored by Channel Island Adjusters Limited.

DONATION FROM FREEMASONS
Our 'Meet & Make' craft group were delighted to have received a donation of £500 from the Province of the Channel Islands for the Order of the Secret Monitor (Freemasons) to purchase resources.  Groups such as this help alleviate social isolation in adults with autism and help promote an increase in self-esteem and social communication.
GENEROUS DONATION ALLOWS CONTINUATION OF CODING CLUBS

Our Coding Club, and Code Club for younger members, will be able to continue being delivered due to a generous donation from PriceWaterhouseCoopers.  These clubs help children and young people with autism learn how to build websites which may then lead on to a career in web design.
How you can help support Autism Guernsey

Lottery

The primary aim of the Autism Guernsey Lottery is to ensure the sustainability of the Charity. Autism Guernsey offers a range of support in the local community including an Outreach Service where staff give one-to-one help to individuals and families. Demand outstrips our capacity and therefore we have a significant waiting list with referrals for support being received on a daily basis.  To download a registration form, click here.

The charity receives no financial support from the States and has to rely on fundraising and charitable donations to continue the valuable work within the community.
Join easyfundraising and you can collect free donations for Autism Guernsey every time you buy something online.  It won't cost you a penny extra, so please help us to raise funds.

Donations Needed

If you have any good quality Children's Toys & Games you would like to donate for our stall at Government House Fete, we would be extremely grateful.

Also we are looking for Raffle Prizes for our fundraising events.  If you have any unwanted gifts or would like to donate a prize, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are able to donate any of the above items, please contact Mandy on Tel: 232879 office@autismguernsey.org.gg

Thank you.

Adult Social Groups

In addition to the children's clubs, there are also two groups for adults: The Interests Group and The Club With No Name.  See our website for further details.

Outreach Services

The outreach service provides tailored and comprehensive support to individuals affected by autism within the community.

Established in 2012, the aim is to enable the individual to manage autism so that they can have a positive and fulfilling life – making choices that are right for them.

We adapt our services to the individual’s needs. No person is the same and that is something we respect and value.

SocialEyes

The programme helps individuals with autism to learn social interaction skills or alternative social strategies.  It focuses on eight social skills that people on the autism spectrum can have difficulty with, including starting a conversation, eye contact and personal space.

CBT

The programme enables individuals with Aspergers Syndrome to better understand their depression, and teaches them skills and strategies they can use to manage anxiety and depression throughout their life.

The programme is based on established CBT principles, but is specifically adapted for individuals with autism.

If you require support from Autism Guernsey, please contact the office on Tel: 232879 or office@autismguernsey.org.gg for a referral form.

Other Services

For information about other services we provide please contact us or visit our website.
Thank You!

We are extremely grateful to everybody who has given us donations during the second quarter of 2019, whether it be money, clothes for the fashion show, toys or raffle prizes.  Without donations such as these we would be unable to remain sustainable as we receive no States funding.
