#WorkWithMe for Employability Day

Employability Day, UK's largest celebration for organisations supporting local people into work, takes place this coming Friday and to mark the occasion IEP have invited Scope and Virgin to host a webinar to their #WorkWithMe pledge

Scope and Virgin Media are working together to break down the barriers disabled people face getting into, staying in and thriving in work. The #WorkWithMe pledge calls for businesses to come together to create more inclusive workplaces for disabled people, demonstrating a commitment to thinking and acting differently about disability in their organisation.

By signing the #WorkWithMe pledge, businesses join a digital community set up to facilitate the sharing of insight, learning and experiences across a range of sectors and industries to build more inclusive workplaces. A growing set of resources, tools and advice is available online to pledgees. In addition, there will be opportunities to engage with a series of face-to-face events focussed on proactively addressing challenges many employers face to supporting disabled people in the workplace.

They are building a unique community of businesses, large and small, creating a place for members to share and learn. Collectively they want to address the barriers disabled people face in getting into, staying and thriving in work.

All IEP Members are invited to take part in the webinar which will be streamed live at Shaw Trust in Birmingham and via online dial-in at 11am and 1.30pm on 28th June – if you would like to register please contact Helen at enquiries@iemployability.org

Employability Day on Friday 28 June is the UK’s largest celebration for charities and businesses supporting local people into work. The day aims to raise public awareness about the importance of employment support and drive understanding across stakeholders.

This year’s theme is ‘Closing the gaps’ to highlight the tireless efforts of organisations across the UK who help to close employment gaps by supporting disadvantaged people to enter or progress in work. To find out more, click here and follow the conversation on #EmpDay19.

Employment Support for Over 50s - Rapid Evidence Review

The Centre for Ageing Better has published a new report looking at the evidence around active labour market policies aimed at tackling the challenges of worklessness amongst those aged 50 and over.  You can read the review here.

Recent employment rates for the 50-64 age group have hit a record high. However, in general, people aged 50 and above continue to face greater difficulty in accessing work-related training and re-entering employment than younger age groups. While some are not working out of choice, around 1 million people aged between 50 and state pension age are not working but would like to be.

Supporting people to be in good quality work for as long they want to is critical for their financial security now and into the future, and is a vital opportunity to help them manage their health and improve their wellbeing as being unemployed can also have negative impacts on people’s health and wellbeing.
