Kathy's Grove Commemoration & Celebration!

There's so much happening at Kathy's Grove this Saturday!

Join us on June 22 β€” 2 to 4pm...
in Kathy's Memorial Grove & Pollinator Garden
(northwest corner of Stanley Park).
  • LEARN ABOUT NATIVE WILDFLOWERS
Our experts will be there to teach you about native wildflowers that not only look great in your garden but help pollinators too. A win win!

  • IDENTIFY POLLINATORS
The Pollinator Partnership will be there to show you how to identify pollinators (think birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants). Plus, become a citizen scientist with your mobile phone! They'll teach you about apps that you can use to record the pollinator creatures you find.

  • FEATHERED FRIEND IDENTIFICATION
Bird Studies Canada will be there to help you identify birds. They'll also be discussing ways to improve habitat for birds.

  • IN THE ZONE β€” WWF
Kathy's Grove is part of the In The Zone program run by World Wildlife Fund Canada and Carolinian Canada. WWF Canada members will show you how to put your garden "In The Zone"!

  • MEDICINAL PLANTS
Kathy's Grove is just across from Meegwetch Place, part of First Homes. Come see some of the native medicine plants growing in their garden at the corner of Adelaide St W & Stanley Terrace.

  • COMMEMORATION
See and enjoy the benches and plaques that accompany this beautifully transformed green space, in honour of Kathy Andrachuk, a beloved past President and prolific volunteer of The Horticultural Societies of Parkdale & Toronto.

Volunteer Opportunities

Want to get into the CNE for free this summer? Easy. Just volunteer for a few hours at the OHA table!

As always, our Hort will be helping at the Ontario Horticultural Association's outreach table at the CNE. This is a fun and easy way for you to talk about your experience with our Hort, help others find a society or garden club near where they live, and just chat with other plant lovers!

Why is it especially nice to participate? You get to meet people and network with members from other Horts/Clubs, and you get into the CNE for FREE on the day that you volunteer! Consider coordinating a shift with a friend at the Hort and the two of you can make a day of it! After all, the CNE isn’t just a bunch of rides along a midway. There are judged plant shows, Super Dog performances, cat shows, a National Geographic photo exhibit, a Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation exhibit (the group with which the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden is closely linked), a robotics competitionGallivanting Giraffespinball tournaments, food trucks, a craft beer fest, historic CNE heritage walking tours, the popular food pavilion, musical performances, art displays, endless activities for kids... We are only just scratching the surface!

When: August 16th to September 2nd, 2019 β€” 2 shifts per day: 11am–3pm & 3pm–7pm.
Where: The Enercare Centre

Space is limited for this event. To reserve a shift at the OHA table, please send an email ASAP to ohacne@gmail.com with a CC to volunteers@parkdaletorontohort.com to loop in our Hort's volunteer coordinator, Maria, so that she can keep track of our volunteers' hours!
