Cancer Presumption Bill
Passed by New Jersey
State Assembly & Senate
Moves to Gov's Desk to be
Signed into Law
Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Today is a historic day for firefighters, emergency medical service members, and all first responders in the State of New Jersey. Today our State Assembly, with a tally of 73-5, and State Senate, with tally of 37-0,voted to send bill A1741/S716, also known as the Thomas P. Canzanella 21st Century First Responders Act, to Governor Murphy to be signed into law.

Please join us in expressing our gratitude to Assemblywoman Annette Quijano and State Senator Linda Greenstein, who sponsored this essential bill in the current legislative session, and to each legislator who voted in its support.

Once A1741/S716 is signed into law, New Jersey will join the vast majority of states in our country which already have presumptive cancer legislation for firefighters and other first responders. Our journey to secure these new laws began in 2006 and has been long and arduous. The passage of this bill would not have been successful if not for the many dedicated members of the PFANJ and our partners at the NJFOP and HPAE.

More details on the Thomas P. Canzanella 21st Century First Responders Protection Act will be forthcoming in the next several weeks, so stay tuned for further information. In the meantime, take a moment to celebrate this crucial piece of legislation that will work to safeguard our futures, and those of our families, for generations to come.

Fraternally and United,

Dominick Marino, President
Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey
