MPP Report ~ June 2019 Issue

What a hectic month it has been! With the Legislature now closed, I am so looking forward to spending time in our community. I love Kanata and West Carleton through the long summer days.

Having said that, if you wish to arrange a meeting, or you are part of a community group that would like me to attend an event, contact my Community Office and make arrangements with my staff. (Office contact info is below - or you can fill out an online form to request a meeting or for me to attend an event.)

There is a lot planned in the coming months. I will be sharing highlights of my summer meetings in the news section of my MPP website so you may wish to check there regularly. I also intend on delivering summer MPP Report newsletters to share news and community activities across West Carleton and Kanata. If there is someone you know who would like to receive this newsletter, please have them connect and subscribe by clicking this on-line form.

Here's wishing you fun times this summer! Happy Canada Day - get out and enjoy one of the many community events celebrating our great country. And please, let’s stay in touch,

I have been working with the Premier, my provincial government colleagues, and officials at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to ensure West Carleton residents get the most up-to-date information about services the provincial government can offer for residents and businesses impacted by the flood. This is a photo of a May 24th meeting with municipal partners, industry leaders and representatives of Indigenous communities that were impacted by recent flooding events. This month I issued a statement regarding the Ontario Government’s new education reform plan. The Provinces' plan will bring about measured changes to the public education system while keeping the best interests of Ontario students top of mind. I had the pleasure of announcing the Carp Fair, “the best little fair in Canada,” is receiving Ontario Government support through the Celebrate Ontario program. The Carp Agricultural Society Board received $31,250 in funding to help support its activities in running this year’s Carp Fair. Read more here: Supporting Carp Fair
I enjoyed being with my friend, Kanata South City Councillor Allan Hubley, at Allan’s annual Seniors' Social event. There was great music, food, and friendships!
It was wonderful to drop by a welcoming barbeque of Kanata’s newest retirement living facility --“The Bradley”-- to meet some of the residents and folks involved with the facility's operations. To those moving from other parts of the City, "welcome to our neighbourhood!"
I was very pleased to have some players of the Ottawa Women’s United Soccer Team visit my office to share with me their exciting news of competing in Italy. Wishing you every success – and plenty of fun with this life experience.
Many thanks to these enthusiastic kids selling lemonade and goodies in Carp on the recent “Lemonade Standemonium Day.” All proceeds from the sidewalk booths that day went to fundraising efforts to find a cure for cancer.
It was jam-packed at the Annual Pancake Breakfast at Station 66 in Dunrobin. I had a great time speaking with residents – and enjoying the hearty breakfast prepared by the local firefighters. Thanks!
I stopped by a local Tim Hortons to prepare promotions for Camp Day on June 5th. The money from coffee sales that day went to the Tim Hortons Children Foundation, helping disadvantaged children attend their summer camps.

If you wish for me to attend an event, connect with my Community Office staff and I would be pleased to be at your event if I can fit it in the schedule! You can phone the office or invite me to an event by filling out this on-line form
Here I am enjoying some fantastic ribs at the Kanata RibFest. This was a great family event with delicious food, live music and a midway! (It seems that everywhere I go across Kanata and West Carleton I am eating -- but I tell you that really isn't the case!)
I had a very productive meeting with Kanata North City Councillor Jenna Sudds recently. We spoke of many neighbourhood concerns -- and, of course, about the successes in our local high tech sector.

For further reading about local business issues, earlier this year I released the "High Tech and Business Initiative," which identifies four pillars of sustainability and growth to advance the interests of high tech and business in Kanata and West Carleton. Here is the media release: MPP Releases Local High Tech and Business Initiative.
I always enjoy our community's Canada Day celebrations -- this photo is from last year's fun!
This July 1st I plan to attend events at the Huntley Community Association’s Senior’s Breakfast, the Diefenbunker, Kanata Legion BBQ, West Carleton Legion, Corkery celebrations, and Light Up Dunrobin. I look forward to seeing you at one of our Canada Day parties!
