Chorleywood Businesses Meeting 18th June
We live in changing times for retailers and the impact can be very clearly seen in our own village. CRA has excellent connections with our local authorities so we recently hosted a meeting of local businesses to ascertain how we could help them by using our contacts.
Our joint conclusion was that Chorleywood has many strengths that can be built on and that there are opportunities to make it even better if together we can address five key areas:
- Getting a viable post office back asap
- Improving parking
- Ensuring rent and rates are affordable
- Improving the overall look of the village
- Exploring ways for our retailers to work together.
Further meetings are planned to follow through on various ideas and to create a plan for building on the undoubted opportunities that exist so as to ensure that our village keeps pace with modern times and continues to prosper.
However, CRA and the businesses cannot work alone. We need to collect as many ideas as possible, so if you have any suggestions please mail them to blt@chorleywoodresidents.co.uk.

Chorleywood Post Office
Chorleywood Residents' Association regularly contact and remind Post Office HQ of the impact to the residents and businesses of Chorleywood that the closure of the Post Office is having.
The most recent response we have received just last week indicates that they are still committed to a solution, and that they are working hard on practical ideas that are taking longer than they had hoped to complete.
Your Residents' Association will continue to pressure them directly, and through other channels, and will advise residents through our website and newsletters as soon as we have more information.

Garden Bonfires
For the second year in a row, we have received comments of concern from residents about garden bonfires. Before using a bonfire to dispose of garden waste, we would ask residents to consider both the impact on their neighbours and the overall environment.
The smoke from garden bonfires can seriously impact the ability of neighbours to enjoy their own garden and can have a significant negative impact on those with conditions such as asthma.
As burning garden waste releases locked in carbon into the atmosphere, in an age where we are all trying to reduce our carbon footprint, recycling garden waste through the districts recycling centres or the council's brown bin scheme is a simple way to reduce our negative impact . The nearest Recycling Centre is in Riverside Drive, Rickmansworth and is open 10am - 6 pm Thursday to Monday. Further details on the council's brown bin scheme can be found at www.threerivers.gov.uk/egcl-page/brown-bins.
