Are you ready for Party at the Park?

The Griesbach Community League is gearing up for the annual community party on Saturday, Sept. 7. That means you should save the date for the best neighbourhood party of the year.

This year's party promises to have something for everyone, with bouncy castles and face painting for the kids and a beer garden and live music for adults. There will also be food trucks, give aways and much more.

The schedule

1 p.m. - Original playground refurbishment celebration and dedication
1:30-5:30 p.m. - Activities, music, beer garden and food trucks
Dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) Fireworks from the Central Park hill

All activities are FREE with a Griesbach Community League membership, which can be purchased on site, or ahead of time through the new CommuniBee app. Bring cash for drinks and food trucks. Non-members and guests are welcome and can purchase wristbands to participate in activities. Anyone who uses the CommuniBee app to buy their new membership can skip the lineup for activity wristbands.

Seeking sponsors

Are you a local business that wants to be involved through a donation of cash, an in-kind donation for a door prize and/or volunteers? Please email fundraising@griesbachcommunity.com to discuss sponsorship packages.

We can promise exposure to the 700+ residents who are expected to attend and additional brand exposure through this email newsletter and the community league website and Facebook page.

Seeking volunteers

This annual party couldn't happen without a team of dedicated volunteers to plan the event ahead of time and to set up and run the event on the day of. If you want to get involved in party planning or in day-of activities, email volunteers@griesbachcommunity.com. Volunteer shifts can be used towards any outstanding volunteer commitments from the summer sports season.
Pressure on Sobeys lot continues. The Griesbach Community League is continuing to put pressure Sobeys and politicians to deal with the unused lot in the southeast corner of the neighbourhood. Members will also resume federal and provincial lobby efforts in the fall. The Edmonton Journal recently wrote about the issue here.

More on Griesbach Minis

Griesbach Minis, an award-winning sports program for preschool-aged kids, will be back for the 2019/2020 season.

The program takes place once a week in the Major General Griesbach School gym through the fall and winter. Volunteer coaches focus on gross motor skills, sportsmanship and fun. This is a parented program, meaning parents must remain in the gym and are encouraged to play with their kids.

Registration is on Sept. 4 and 7th, along with the regular soccer registration.

We are still finalizing details for the minis program, including which night of the week it will be on, so stay tuned to the Griesbach Community League Facebook page and website for more information.

Original playground revamp complete

The original playground refurbishment project is now complete, with new playground equipment, benches, sand and a revamp of the older equipment that was still in good condition.
A big thanks goes out to Past-President Brad Tilley, Coun. Bev Esslinger, and city parks staff, who championed this project.
Please join us for a park grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.

Love is love. Congratulations to Griesbach residents Marni Panas and Kate Beneteau, whose wedding at Patricia Lake was featured in the Edmonton Journal. We wish you all the best in your life together.

Poppy update. The city planted new poppies in Flanders Park on McCrae Avenue. The original plants were Icelandic Poppies and did not thrive. The new Allegro Oriental Poppies should reseed each year and provide a beautiful blanket of red flowers with black eyes.
