Welcome NYU Wagner, Our Newest Affiliate
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University. Established in 1938, the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service offers advanced programs leading to the professional degrees of MPA in Public and Nonprofit Management & Policy, MPA in Health Policy & Management, and Master of Urban Planning.
Of the school, Dean Ellen Schall states: "Students come to NYU Wagner seeking to transform their personal commitment into public service leadership. Our vision of public service leadership is not a still-life snapshot but a fast-moving, reel-to-reel frame. APSIA in Asia
Asia was again part of the APSIA Fall recruiting schedule. APSIA held admissions fairs in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangkok from September 20-24th. Fourteen APSIA Schools were represented at the fairs.
In Shanghai, APSIA hosted, in cooperation with Swissnex China, an alumni reception for alumni and other guests of our visiting member schools. We had a great turnout with approximately 60 people attending the reception representing a variety of nationalities and career sectors.
In addition to the general APSIA fair in Shanghai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of International and Public Affairs also warmly welcomed the representatives of our member schools to the School. We had the opportunity to learn more about the School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, from Dean HU Wei and Associate Dean PENG Bo, as well as meet and speak with their students about graduate studies at APSIA member schools.
While in Hong Kong for the APSIA fair, the Macau Tertiary Education Services Office hosted our group for an afternoon. The visit began with a lunch with representatives of the ten higher education institutions in Macau. Following lunch, the University of Macau hosted an information session and fair for its students.
Japan Travel Fellowship for U.S. Future Leaders
In August, fourteen students from eleven APSIA schools traveled to Tokyo to participate in the Japan Travel Fellowship for U.S. Future Leaders. The trip was sponsored by the Japan Foundation’s Center for Global Partnership. Jessica Hatherill, Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Career Services at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh, and past chair of the APSIA Career Directors group, participated in the program as the APSIA representative. She also provided professional development advice to the students during the 10-day program. To read Jessica's article on the program and experience, click here. APSIA is pleased to announce that the program has been renewed and we look forward to sending another cohort to Japan in 2012!
Impressions from the 2011 Rosenthal Fellowship Class
Each summer, students from APSIA member schools participate in the Harold W. Rosenthal Fellowship in International Relations. This year the program placed 17 students in summer professional fellowship positions within the federal government. Click here to read reflections from the 2011 class.
Meet our New Program Associate
APSIA is very pleased to welcome Maggie Brown as the new Program Associate for the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). Maggie will support the Executive Office and member schools through programming, data management, communications, and research. She earned a master's degree in Democracy and Government from the School of Arts and Sciences at Georgetown University in May of 2011. Her bachelor’s in Politics is from The Catholic University of America.
