FURLANI & IL SALICETO ARE HERE!

Grapes: Nosiola, Verdarbara, Lagarino

Matteo's classic bottling and a great 'square one' for those new to Cantina Furlani. Spontaneous fermentation goes down in stainless steel; a little frozen must added in the Spring to induce secondary fermentation in bottle with no added sulfur or disgorgement at any point. Honeydew melon, kiwi, hazelnut and Granny Smith.

Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir

All de-stemmed Pinot Noir that sees a brief maceration on skins after pressing. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. Spontaneous fermentation goes down in stainless steel; a little frozen must added in the Spring to induce secondary fermentation in bottle with no added sulfur or disgorgement at any point. Tart cranberry/plum skin, cold raspberry and mint tea, crushed limestone.

Grapes: 100% Joannita

A brand new release from Matteo! Based on the extremely rare Joannita, a fungus and disease resistant cross of Riesling, Seyve-Villard, Rulander and Gutedel developed in the late 60's. Matteo Furlani planted a small 1 hectare parcel of the variety 4 years ago and this is the first harvest and subsequent wine made from it. One week skin maceration during primary fermentation before following the same treatment as its siblings.

Grapes: 80% Trebbiano di Modena, 20% Sauvignon

Direct press. Natural primary fermentation in stainless steel. Secondary fermentation in bottle with must from original harvest. Minimal added sulfur and no filtering or fining. White flowers, citrus pith and tomato leaf dominate an uber fresh and vivacious mouthful of rustic Emilia fizz. Such a killer wine!

Grapes: 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara

There's the potential you might wanna bathe in this stuff, and given the volumes in which people purchase this wine, I suspect some maybe do. A bone dry, rosato-style Sorbara, fermentations all happen in stainless steel before a secondary fermentation in bottle is fired with a little must from original harvest. Minimal sulfur added at bottling and no filtering or fining.

"Get 'em while they're hot..."

"Here today, gone tomorrow..."

"They'll sell like hotcakes..."

Alright... we'll spare you the unnecessary spout of metaphors, analogies, euphemisms and simply tell you this: the wines of Cantina Furlani and Podere Il Saliceto are finally back. And, given the cult like status these two producers have earned in such a brief period in the US market, coupled with the subsequent clamor that the release of these wines seems to induce in people far and wide, well, it's safe to assume they won't be back for long.

For those not in the know:

Matteo Furlani has been plying has trade at nose-bleed inducing elevations, high in his native Dolomites, working tiny schist and granite-dominated parcels of vines, both native and non, that tower over the nearby sub-alpine city of Trento. While, far below in the rolling agrarian heartland of Emilia Romagna, Gian Paolo Isabella (a former Muay Thai champion, no joke) and his brother-in-law Marcello are turning out equally pleasure-inducing bio fizz!

Both producers have developed reputations for turning out low-profile, high-pleasure bottle-fermented sparklers that balance equal parts farmhouse rusticity with joyous, 'once-you-pop-you-can't-stop' drinkability,

Time to load the fridges amici, because these bottles are PRIMED for the Cali summer and they won't be here long!

$15 TASTING FEE (waived for Wine Club members)

Likely to be the most oft-dismissed, overlooked and misrepresented of all of Italy's blue-chip regions, the wines of Chianti are currently experiencing a roaring renaissance. And for good reason. The site specificity, stylistic diversity and extreme quality now available within the Chianti zone at all pricepoints is testament to the Sangiovese grape's claim to one of Italy's greatest varietals, and a thankful reprise from the wash of Tuscan plonk that soured the region for decades. We plan to showcase both the classical and the very non-classical side of the region with a line up of cracking wines. 7 wines.
