Present

The seeds of change are found in everyday experience. The stories of people who live in supportive housing can shed light on important issues, such as what it is like to experience homelessness or live with mental illness or a disability.

Because of this, SHPA and Housing Action Illinois are partnering to bring a series of five free storytelling workshops throughout Illinois in the coming year. We want to help residents of permanent supportive housing explore how they can tell their stories to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others.

All workshop participants will have the chance to share their stories for publication online or in a print magazine.

Specialized Housing and Services for Victims of Human Trafficking NOFA (FR-6300-N-45)
On July 2, 2019, HUD released the Specialized Housing and Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to grants.gov.
Through the funds available under this NOFA, HUD’s Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPS) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office for Victims of Crimes (OVC) are promoting collaboration between Continuums of Care (CoCs) funded by HUD and organizations funded by DOJ to address the housing and service needs of victims of human trafficking. This NOFA promotes trauma-informed, victim-centered services, including in tribal areas. Organizations awarded funds through this NOFA are expected to work with other organizations within the CoC’s geographic area to train service providers on how to identify victims of human trafficking and connect these victims to appropriate housing. SNAPS and OVC plan to identify best practices for addressing this population that may assist in framing future funding opportunities for victims of human trafficking.
Program Application: SNAPS, in conjunction with OVC, announces the availability of up to $13,500,000 for grants to eligible organizations to implement and provide housing and trauma-informed, victim-centered services to victims of human trafficking. HUD expects to select 20 applications for the program funds.

Program Application Due Date: October 30, 2019 by 11:59:59 PM EDT
