Life Leadership Camp
Students from Camp Rockhurst returned July 2019
Life Leadership Day for Camp Rockhurst was successful again this year. Improvements since last year:
Terry Slaughter and team brought twice as many students.
The seminar focused on the character trait "Courage" (1 or 25 taught in Alabama).
We added a Pledge of Allegiance thanks to installing the Barefield Flag Pole to fly the US Flag.
We added a "bow to the Flag" by horse Indian Legend with a minute story about the horse not being wanted at birth and how he has become a big, strong, horse with purpose (several students related)
We add a minute lesson on the character trait "Patriotism."
We added options during the picnic lunch, including a hayride pulled by an antique tractor.
Students met three "rescued" horses and liked the story of their hardship that turned good.

We are drafting a pilot to work with a few schools to make a difference, improve the program, and provide to more dedicated educators to use. The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross Blue Shield (Tim King, manager) provides grant support and advice for our work in education and student development to Advance Alabama.
Alabama Power Foundation invited us to attend their "Elevate Alabama" conference--lots of good seminars and people learning, thanks to Hallie Bradley, Mike Oakley, and others.
Mike Oakley (Alabama Power and Alabama National Guard) works in corporate Alabama, with veterans, and as a member of the Bibb County School Board. He is sharing information about Life Leaders programs to encourage educators to use materials on plans for school and life, character traits, and Veterans Day Founding History unique to Alabama. His advocacy helped us receive an invitation to provide a briefing to leaders of the Alabama Association of School Boards. Their feedback helped improve our draft for a pilot program for schools.
William "Greg" Akers, adjutant of the American Legion Department of Alabama Greg helped develop ideas for the Legion, Patriotism in Action, and Plan for School and Life to impact students and schools. He also gives a great tour of the Legion HQ and Alabama War Memorial housed there. Alabama has many heroes.
Bob Selby filmed and edited the video dedicating the Barefield Flag Pole and Dunn Dogwood.
Alliance Property Maintenance Services sent a donation on their own initiative to support publications and programs.
