Georgia Department of Transportation's Northeast Region needs to hear from you.
BETHLETHEM, GA.,-Georgia DOT is considering a project off Harry McCarty Road onto State Route 316 in Bethlehem, Georgia that will increase safety and save tax payer dollars.
This project comes as a response to the frequent angle crashes that occur as drivers attempt to turn left onto State Route 316 from Harry McCarty Rd. From 2013 to 2016 there have been over 40 crashes, 17 of which have yielded injury.
At this time a signal is not warranted in the area due to traffic volume.
In order to enhance the operation of the intersection for the traveling public, the proposed project would eliminate the possibility for such crashes by implementing a reduced conflict U-turn (R-CUT).
This would prevent drivers from crossing the divided highway by requiring right turns onto SR 316 and directing them to make a signalized U-turn down the road.
This traffic operation has been proven to increase safety and reduce collisions.
Public outreach is extremely important when implementing traffic solutions. Please let us know what you think about this project!
