First Day is a Great Day at HEI
Teachers and students were equally excited to start the first day of the Hawthorn Enrichment Institute (HEI) on July 8. In particular, the fishing class had a very successful day. Students caught more than 80 fish. Designed to expand the educational horizon for Hawthorn students, HEI offers many types of project based learning courses and opportunities in the areas of core academics, the arts and athletics.

Summer Scholars Program Builds Reading Skills
Approximately 110 students are enrolled in this year’s Summer Scholars program that is taking place at Townline Elementary/School of Dual Language. The program primarily focuses on building reading skills in a fun and engaging way. Classes are purposefully small with about 10 students in each class.

Avoid the Last Minute Rush
Schools require that children be up to date on their immunizations. August 22 is the first day of Hawthorn District 73's school year. The district expects 100 percent compliance by that date. Schedule an appointment for your child's immunizations and physicals early to avoid the last minute rush. Turn in the paperwork as soon as possible to the District Office, 841 West End Court in Vernon Hills.
