Pruning field trial and nutrition workshop
Thursday 18 July
Pruning is a huge cost in time and labour for dried grape growers. Reducing that time is the focus of a pruning field trial set up at Ashley Johnstone's property.

Come along to the DFA and Hort Innovation-funded event next week to have a look at the trial, which will compare (at pruning and harvest) the impact of two pruning methods – simply trapping canes on a swingarm trellis without spending time rolling on, and Ashley’s normal technique, which includes some rolling on.

The event will also include a presentation on vine nutrition by Agriculture Victoria's Michael Treeby and a discussion around calculating piece rates following the 2019 wage review.

It will be held on Thursday 18 July at Ashley's place – 2880 Sixteenth Street, Irymple. We will kick off at 4.30pm and finish about 7pm with a barbecue.
