ROBOTS THAT CAN FEEL

We read this week in Canada's Disruptor Magazine about Dr. Suzanne Gildert who is creating an empathetic, human-like robot to live among us. We're happy to see, that our vision of empathetic machines, has like-minded researchers working on building robots with a personality of their own, and... yes she's not the only one. Robots will need to display human like characteristics if they are to interact with humans, have their own personality... become 'friends' with humans.
Dr. Gildert has co-founded Sanctuary AI in Canada and is actually building hardware 'synths' (AIS), as she calls them instead of 'human-like robots', that will also include human-like emotions. Today, we've got a lot of robots doing repetitive jobs but very few robots that do social tasks. Her research, along with her desire to mass produce robots like her prototype, and the work of many others from around the world are going to change that. The commercial demand for in-person interaction with humans will be great, and as she notes, social robots will need to be socially engaged and socially sensitive. That's why we believe that our R&D focus on building a robust emotional engine is hugely important...we are part of a bigger idea!  More here Disruptor Magazine.

What is Emotion AI?

Rana Gujral, our CEO, writes about emotion AI, the range of human emotions, and the signals that AI can detect and measure.   As artificial intelligence becomes more ubiquitous in consumer applications, it must develop a greater understanding of human emotion and how to respond. That’s where emotion AI comes in. If you want to know how it will change human to machine communication go ahead and read the full article >

Teaching AI to “Predict Human Intent”

Rana Gujral, our CEO, was a panelist and speaker at MWC Shanghai 2019. He was interviewed by Mara Anton for Tech The Lead, responding to a set of questions ranging from his entrepreneurial journey up to how our technology can predict human intent. His response to the question How does the ideal AI-human interaction look like is part of our broader vision: "For us, it looks like a human2human-like interaction, where the AI is not only intelligent but actually has a personality! Something that will make us think of the AI as a ‘friend’. Something we could easily communicate with and keep up a meaningful interaction".  Head over to the whole interview >

David Beckham lends his voice to Malaria AI petition

This is cool... the world's first voice petition! David Beckham is lending his voice for the fight on malaria in his latest off-field role as an ambassador for the non-profit organisation Malaria No More in its battle to eradicate the mosquito-borne disease. The novel campaign shows Beckham speaking in nine languages as he invites listeners to become involved, but the voices actually belong to others having been digitally mapped to Beckham’s own features with the help of AI-powered video synthesis technology. Use your Voice to end malaria >

Voice is the Ignored Golden Opportunity

Voice is more than just the Amazon Echos, Google Assistants, and iPhones on which it is currently used. It is a paradigm-shifting new approach to building user interfaces that integrate seamlessly with our lives. But how it will do this, how soon it will do this, and what will need to change to get us there remains up for debate. To make the evolutionary leap to the next stage – one at which voice is an experience that people don’t purchase but engage with as part of how they use computers on a regular basis – voice needs something more. Conversational AI that learns as you use it. Startups, like Behavioral Signals, that develop creative and exciting new ways to leverage existing voice platforms to do new things. This is the future of the technology and its coming soon.
