Award

Life does sometimes back up a clip round the head with a pat on the back. And so it was this week with a bit of good news for us to follow the grimness of the fire in Mousehole.

The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is arguably the world's pre-eminent wine awards and you'll frequently see the awards badge on the wines you buy. The IWC also runs what it calls its Merchant Awards and its Restaurant Wine List of the Year award has been a welcome addition.
We (meaning EDS as a whole) were as happy as anything to be shortlisted with the likes of the trailblazing Vinoteca, the exacting Tate and the illustrious Ritz for the 2019 award.

To win, as we did on Tuesday night, is a proper thrill. And for us rural hicks to head to London to pick up a gong against our more sophisticated urban counterparts is a tribute to the knowledge and good taste of our wine team.

We've always banged the drum for the importance of wine within the whole experience of eating out. In an ever more disorientating world, remembering the simplicity of food, wine and good company seems to us to be our raison d'être. Please join us soon to enjoy all three.
