We bird AND help birds: Volunteer Opportunities this Month
We know you love birds and want to see more here in DC. The best way to do that is by creating bird-friendly habitat everywhere we can! Below we've got some great opportunities for you this month that will help Audubon's mission!
Bird Walk and Invasive Plant Removal
DC Audubon is heading to Kingman and Heritage Islands for a bird walk, but we aren't stopping there! This month, we're also calling for volunteers to help restore the habitat on the islands, which are overrun by bush honeysuckle and Japanese knotweed. These plants are known to crowd out native plants and provide almost no wildlife value. We will watch birds from 9-10 am and remove plants from 10 am-12 pm.
As always, please be mindful of weather conditions, dress and hydrate appropriately, and use caution when traveling to new or unfamiliar birding locations. Register for the event here.
Can you help us with our new website?
DC Audubon wants to give its website a new look! National Audubon created a website template on SquareSpace to make it easier for chapters like ours to learn more about local birds and hotspots, events, and tools for bird enthusiasts. The process to switch from our current website to the new one is simple. However, SquareSpace recommends that the person leading the project should have a basic working knowledge of web platforms. Do you love birds and have experience designing web platforms? We are looking for a volunteer to help us with this project.
