We have launched the next wave of data collection of our TREC Measurement System (TMS) project. Our data collectors are in the field surveying care providers in select nursing homes in British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. Prior to each wave, we hire data collectors in all regions and train them at our "interview schools." During the two day interview schools, data collectors learn and perfect their interviewing skills using the TREC Survey. Click below to check out the photo albums from the schools. We are delighted to announce that Dr Estabrooks has secured funding through a new John R. Evans Leaders Fund Grant, to create the Portal for Elder Research, Care and Innovation (PERCI). PERCI is a unique longitudinal long term care database that links administrative and primary data at both the unit and facility levels. This groundbreaking portal will allow researchers to tap the vast wealth of data our team has collected over the past decade to design studies specifically tailored to address quality gaps, spread and scale up potential solutions, and evaluate the capacity of health systems to adopt them. We are excited to begin our work once we apply for and secure the Alberta portion of the funding.

We are proud to announce that Dr Matthias Hoben is the recipient of the Canadian Association on Gerontology's (CAG's) Recognition Award for Excellence in Longitudinal Research: In Honour of Betty Havens. The award recognizes scholars who have demonstrated excellence in conducting research using longitudinal data related to aging. Congratulations Matthias!

Our summer internship program allows undergraduate students to explore their interests in research. We had the opportunity to learn about our summer student Monica Buencamino's summer research activities at this year's Launchpad to Research poster presentations. This event is hosted by the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta where Monica presented her poster describing her work. This work sought to identify burdensome symptoms and inappropriate care practices in seniors' lived experience using the Action Project Method.
