Public Health of Madison and Dane County recently reported that the number of algae blooms in the Yahara Chain of Lakes is down this summer due to better weather and the success of projects aimed at improving water quality.

I joined WKOW 27 out at Mendota County Park to talk about these findings and the efforts Dane County is taking to keep our lakes clean and beaches safe.

From our "Suck the Muck" initiative to our "Clean Beach Corridors," Dane County is working hard to ensure the natural resources we enjoy today will be around for many years to come.

Following two fires at Madison substations the morning of July 19, many of those living and working in downtown Madison experienced a power outage.

It was at that time Dane County, the city of Madison, the state of Wisconsin, and our community partners came together to coordinate how to best respond to the outage and take care of those in need during a major heat wave.

Dane County 911 immediately moved to its emergency backup location at the East District Campus. Funding for this facility was included in my 2014 budget and helps prevent 911 service interruptions when events like power outages happen.

A huge thank you goes out to all of those who kept residents safe by putting out the fires, going door to door to check on vulnerable members of our community, opening cooling shelters, connecting residents to helpful resources, and more.

Our community's willingness to go the extra mile made a real difference in the the outcome of the outage and is greatly appreciated.
