How to celebrate NAIDOC Week in Mackay
We’re encouraging all to celebrate NAIDOC Week in Mackay next week.
 
The festivities will kick off in our Civic Precinct on Monday (July 8) with a Flag Raising Ceremony.
 
The week of celebrations will conclude with Mackay’s NAIDOC Street Parade and family day on Friday (July 12).

Mayors sign
MOU with QRC

Industry and councils have united in common goals associated with the sustainable development of mineral and energy reserves within the Greater Whitsunday region.
 
Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayors (GWCoM), representing the Isaac, Mackay and Whitsunday regions, have signed an MOU with the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).

WATCH THE VIDEO > Our Water Laboratory Team will begin moving into their new premises at 89 Connors Road next week. The lab performs more than 350,000 tests each year and has outgrown its current location at the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant. Fergus Builders - Mackay have created a state-of-the-art facility at Paget to allow our services to expand.

Library to host
After Dark event

Once the sun sets on Friday, July 12, young adults will have our Gordon White Library all to themselves.
 
This Library After Dark event will run from 6pm to 8pm and will be open exclusively to young adults aged from 12 to 18.
 
Our library team will be ordering pizzas and snacks, setting up some chill zones and putting on plenty of entertainment.

Water recycling
returns in-house

We’re now running the Mackay North and Mackay South Water Recycling Facilities again.
 
The facilities, located at Bucasia and Bakers Creek, have been operated by contractor Downer for the past 10 years.
 
We decided to bring the operations back in-house for operational and financial gains.

  • From Tuesday, NAIDOC Week activities at various council libraries. Details at mackay.qld.gov.au/whatson
  • Friday, July 12, NAIDOC Street Parade and Family Day. March assembles at Macalister Street from 9am for a 10am start. Family Day begins in Queens Park on arrival of Street Parade (about 11am)
  • Saturday, July 13, Winter Warmers RADF Showcase, Jubilee Community Centre, 5.30pm to 8.30pm
  • July 20 to 28, Mackay Festival of Arts
  • Tuesday, August 20, Mackay Seniors Expo, Big Shed at Mackay Showgrounds, 9am to 1pm
