News updates for our Zion family this week!
Living For Jesus
It isn't easy to stand for Christ in our world, but we want our brothers and sisters in Jesus to live out our faith every moment! Check out some of the details we have to share with you this week.
Thinking Biblically On the 4th of July
How can Christians love their Lord while faithfully loving their country? We have several resources for thinking biblically about patriotism. While we remember that "righteousness exalts a nation" (Proverbs 14:34), we are citizens of heaven in order to be a blessing to the earthly countries of which we are citizens! Learn more about "Thinking God's Thoughts on the 4th of July."
Can you put your faith into action in any of the following ways?
God's Pantry
It is Zion's turn to staff the Pantry during July! Please sign up in the Narthex or contact the church office.
Duesey Days Booth
Sign up to serve on Duesey Days! This not only blesses our community, but all proceeds goes to Zion mission trips! Sign up in the Narthex or contact the church office.
Jr High Chaperons & Baked Goods
There is Jr. High social event on Friday, July 12 for Duesey Days. We need volunteers to chaperone, and we need five pans of bars, cookies, or baked treats. Can you help? Please contact Brooke Banse at 319.415.5634. Thanks!

Q. #72 Does this outward washing with water itself wash away sins?

A. No, only Jesus Christ’s blood and the Holy Spirit cleanse us from all sins.1

1 Matt. 3:111 Pet. 3:211 John 1:7

Q. #73 Why then does the Holy Spirit call baptism the water of rebirth and the washing away of sins?

A. God has good reason for these words. To begin with, God wants to teach us that the blood and Spirit of Christ take away our sins
just as water removes dirt from the body. But more important, God wants to assure us, by this divine pledge and sign, that we are as truly washed of our sins spiritually as our bodies are washed with water physically.2

1 1 Cor. 6:11Rev. 1:57:14
2 Acts 2:38Rom. 6:3-4Gal. 3:27

Q. #74 Should infants also be baptized?

A. Yes. Infants as well as adults are included in God’s covenant and people, and they, no less than adults, are promised deliverance from sin through Christ’s blood and the Holy Spirit who produces faith. Therefore, by baptism, the sign of the covenant, they too should be incorporated into the Christian church and distinguished from the children of unbelievers. This was done in the Old Testament by circumcision, which was replaced in the New Testament by baptism.5

1 Gen. 17:7Matt. 19:14
2 Isa. 44:1-3Acts 2:38-3916:31
3 Acts 10:471 Cor. 7:14
4 Gen. 17:9-14
5 Col. 2:11-13
