LECTIONARY SUMMARY FROM THE LCMS

3-year and 1-year Series available HERE.

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

The Lord Grants Peace and Life to His Church

The Lord restores Jerusalem, His Church, because she is the mother of His children, whom He comforts “as one whom his mother comforts” (Is. 66:13). We are “satisfied from her consoling breast” with the pure milk of the Word, and we “drink deeply with delight from her glorious abundance” (Is. 66:11). The messengers of Christ bestow such gifts upon His Church. For He sends them out “as lambs in the midst of wolves” (Luke 10:3), bearing in their bodies the sacrifice of His cross, by which “the kingdom of God has come near” (Luke 10:9, 11). Wherever He enters in with this Gospel, Satan is cast out and falls “like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18). Thus, we do not “boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Gal. 6:14). Rejoicing in this Gospel, we “bear one another’s burdens in love, according to “the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2).

Giving Faithfully to the Lord’s Work

For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord … and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.”  2 Corinthians 8:3, 5

What an incredible testimony of giving to support the work of the church. Paul knew that giving had to come from the heart, knowing all things good come first from God. Giving isn’t something that is law-driven, rather it stems from a deep understanding of the inheritance we have already received through the death and resurrection of Christ, resulting in part with a gratitude expressed in the way we practice stewardship.

Imagine how blessed your congregation, or a ministry of LCC would be, upon receiving a charitable gift from your estate. The wonderful thing is, implementing a gift in your will has zero impact on your daily life today, but will have a significant impact on the work the church can do in the future. Consider how you can be a blessing just like the Macedonians were in Paul’s time.

If you would like more information on how to develop a planned gift in your estate, please contact Lutheran Foundation Canada or visit us at www.lutheranfoundation.ca.
