GICS is a linking and change agent driving quality improvement, innovation and research in Grampians cancer care service delivery
A Warm Welcome to the GICS Newsletter - July Edition (hopefully to counteract the rain and cold we are experiencing).

July for GICS is a month of taking stock, reflecting on our achievements over the past financial year and finalising plans (and budgets) for the year to come.  And so begins the task of writing annual reports, and preparing for our Annual Forum (planned for the end of October).  A key challenge we hear from Grampians health service providers is to how deliver more high quality services, within limited budgets, in a health system that is becoming more complex.  GICS is committed to supporting member organisations to work efficiently to improve quality cancer care, and our regional cancer service plan is being designed with this in mind.

GICS staff over the past month have been busy across a number of projects.  This includes: coordinating a CNSA pre-symposium workshop on cancer and older people, organising a ‘Hackathon” with IBM to design a digital platform to help patients better manage their information, undertaking data analysis for health services and auditing to identify how as a region, we are performing against the head and neck optimal care pathway.
Medistays Networking Event
Accommodation business' around the Grampians region have been invited to attend a networking event hosted by GICS at the Vic West Primary Health Network to meet Sarah Everitt, the founder of Medistays to create a presence within the Grampians region. Medistays is an Australian accommodation directory for patients, carers and health care professionals seeking accommodation close to hospitals. They’re making it easier for people on a medical journey to focus on their tomorrow. If you know of anyone who would be interested in attending this event please contact Glenn Reeves.

'A Little Change A Big Difference'

Ballarat Health Services and the City of Ballarat are proud to support the community-led initiative to break the World Record for the longest line of coins, which will then be donated to our Wellness Centre.
The launch for the fundraising initiative “A Little Change A Big Difference” was held on 11th July at Llanberris Reserve. There are so many fun and exciting ways that you can help break the record at work, at school, at home or with your friends. Grab a donation box from the Wellness Centre and collect coins at work or school…Host a fundraising sporting event, movie night or morning tea…Casual clothes days or morning teas at school/work…Challenge your work colleagues to an exercise competition…Hold an auction night at your local sporting club, school or office…Get your friends and family to sponsor you for doing something difficult (big bike ride, a long run or far swim). Bring in your donations to the Wellness Centre before the start of December. Or you can go to https://www.alittlechangeabigdifference.com.au/ to donate direct into the bank account. Every little bit of change helps!
