LAST MONTH AT WODEN ARTS

LATEX PAINTING WORKSHOP
WITH KAMAHI DJORDON KING

Woden Arts was incredibly pleased to be able to host a free painting workshop last month, led by the wonderful Kamahi Djordon King.

Kamahi taught the participants his unusual painting technique which uses rubber latex to create vibrant and elaborate designs.

Everyone had a lot of fun and there were some spectacular results!

MURAL PAINTING WORKSHOP
WITH KIRRILY JORDAN + MELROSE HIGH

Woden Arts facilitated a collaborative project in June which miraculously transformed the EVO energy transformer box in Eddison Park (near the Launceston Street car park).

The box had been heavily tagged, and local artist Kirrily Jordan was engaged by the ACT Government to repaint the box with a new design of her creation.

Kirrily worked with Woden Arts to deliver a mural painting workshop for a group of students from Melrose High, who helped her to to deliver the final piece.

This project brought together the ACT Government's Graffiti Management Coordinator, EVO Energy, Woden Arts, and students from Melrose High. The final piece is very beautiful, and worth checking out if you are heading past Eddison park!

MURAL PAINTING WORKSHOP
WITH BJARNI WARK

We had a productive (and pink!) day in the Woden Experiment last month as a group of eager participants worked on a public mural with artist Bjarni Wark (www.happydecay.com.au).

Bjarni has painted a large, brightly coloured mural to enliven the hoardings surrounding the Lovett Tower in the Woden Town Square, and provided an opportunity for the community to pick up a brush and join in the fun.

The mural is sponsored by Transport Canberra and City Services, and the wonderful session Bjarni povided for Woden Arts was facilitated by Woden Community Service and our Woden Arts Officer.

The Woden Arts Officer has been out and about again this month, meeting with local artists and community members.

This week he dropped in to the Woden Experiment to check out the Winter Warmer workshop being run by Nicola Lambert.

Participants shared a lot of laughs as they made soft toys in response to the Bjarni Wark mural which adorns the Lovett tower, just across the square.

There are Winter Warmer drop-in workshops in the Woden Experiment from 10am - 2pm each Wednesday until July 24. More details below!
