Hi everyone,
Can you believe it is mid-year already? Here are three things for you to know:
  1. The first session of the SV Webinar Series Everything you wanted to know about employing swim coaches was held on 11 July. Presented by PwC workplace law partner Andrew Farr, it was a great success judging by the feedback we received. Even if you didn't attend you can watch the replay by registering here and following the prompts. 
  2. Our CEO Jason Hellwig has started a one-page fortnightly update for Clubs and Districts, which aims to keep you on top of upcoming events and ‘things to do’.
  3. The Board will be reviewing and refreshing a number of Board committees in the coming months, as well as updating our Strategic Plan. Watch this space!

asctaVIC Professional Development Conference

Registrations are now open for the 2019 asctaVIC Professional Development Conference on 21 & 22 September at MSAC. With both coaching and teaching streams this year, there will be something for everyone. Speakers include award winning coach David Lush, Swimming Australia Physiologist Tom Vandenbogaerde, Psychologist, Anthony Klarica, former Australian Swim Team Head Coach Leigh Nugent, and ‘Confident Communication for Leaders’ author Carol Fox.

This is the first of a series of articles from our physiotherapy partner, PhysioHealth. The articles will cover topics relevant to swimmers and their parents. This edition discusses why swimmers should get swim screenings. We hope you find it useful!  
Why should swimmers get a swim screening?

Why should a swim screening be performed on all swimmers who train regularly?  Firstly, the sport is so repetitive. A swimmer with any physical weakness or restricted range of movement will end up injured due to the repetition involved. Secondly, a screening will give the coach an insight into why the swimmer has particular technique issues. Thirdly, the screening will allow the coach to direct strength and dry land exercise programs for the individual swimmer’s specific requirements.
