Wates commits to double female representation by 2025
 
Wates Group has signalled its intention to dramatically improve the gender balance of the workforce at all levels, with women accounting for 40% by 2025.The target is one of a series of milestones outlined in the company’s new Diversity and Inclusion Plan which includes (by 2025): having a workforce which is more reflective of society, with 60% men, 40% women, 20% BAME, 3% with a disability and 5% LGBTQ+ across all levels of the business. CITB invests £10m to boost diversity recruitment

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has announced plans to invest £10m to try and attract more people from underrepresented groups into construction. CITB said the investment in its Pathways Into Construction programme would establish recruitment pathways for people from diverse backgrounds that employers can use in future. [Read More]
£20million funding opens for accessibility improvements across rail network

Stations in need of accessibility improvements can now apply for vital funding to improve travel for disabled rail passengers as part of the Government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy.  The £20million fund will be used to help with the installation of small-scale enhancements for passengers with disabilities and mobility needs, such as tactile paving, handrails and Harrington Humps, which increase platform heights. A housing development in Ashford comprising two affordable homes suitable for wheelchair users has won a coveted construction award and been described as a ‘blueprint for accessible housing’. [Read More]
UK to become the most accessible destination for disabled visitors

The Prime Minister has announced the UK’s first ever tourism sector deal today, reaffirming the UK’s global role as a key player in the industry. Part of the deal outlines the government’s ambitions for the UK to become the most accessible destination for disabled visitors, through improvement of disabled facilities and access to destinations across the country.
