Lights for Liberty Vigils Worldwide

On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention camps, will bring thousands of Americans to detention camps across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. Outraged people from around the country, and the world, will shine a light on the horrific abuses of the Trump administration in human detention camps.

In Beaufort, The League of Women Voters is organizing a march that will go from Lady's Island across the Richard V. Woods Memorial Bridge to Waterfront Park.  Marchers are asked to meet at the old theater site (the entrance to Beaufort High School at 84 Sea Island Parkway) at 8:00 p.m.  There will be a couple of speakers there, then the group will march to the Bridge with their lights on and hold up the lights for a 2-5 minute period of silence at 9:00 p.m. on the Bridge.  Then the march will continue to Waterfront Park where there may be another speaker and a discussion of plans for the next action.
