A Successful Snipe Women’s European Championship in Antwerp

Normally, a regatta on a tiny inland lake would not be considered a recipe for a successful international regatta, but this past weekend, the revival of the Snipe Women’s European Championship, held in Antwerp, Belgium proved that thinking outside the box, can bring about change in women’s sailing. The event attracted 42 sailors from 11 nations, with the Lithuanian/American team of Olympic medalist, Gintare Scheidt and Kathleen Tocke topping the podium.

SCIRA announces Hall of Fame

The Snipe Class has a long history of which very few other classes can be boast.
It is a history of people, sailors, champions, enthusiasts, promoters, sailmakers, builders and organizers.
The past is strongly linked to the present: all these people have helped to promote and grow our Class in many countries and continents; many of these people are still strongly linked to the Class or have been, when they were alive, to form a large family, the Snipe Family, from great-grandparents to grandchildren. Past and present are strongly united in the Snipe Class.

Snipe Clinic on the Mystic Lake
The US held the second of two Snipe Clinics of the year, this time at the Winchester Boat Club over the June 29-30 weekend (the first was a part of the Windy 500 in Indianapolis). 23 teams were exposed to the latest and highest level of detail of go-fast techniques with ages ranging from 12 to… well …. um…. er… much older. And experience in Snipes ranged from nine to gobs (30+ years).
