Ward 1 meeting canceled 
Ward 1 Council members Ramey Johnson and Charley Able have canceled their monthly meeting with residents scheduled for July 6 due to its proximity to the Fourth of July holiday. The council members look forward to meeting with residents in August.

Ward 2 meeting
Special topic: Food initiative
Visit with Ward 2 City Council members Jacob LaBure and Sharon Vincent in an informal setting, share ideas and concerns and learn more about your community. Their July meeting will 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 10 at the Clements Community Center, 1580 Yarrow St. This meeting will include a presentation from a guest speaker to discuss a food initiative.

Visit with Ward 3 Council members Pete Roybal and Mike Bieda in an informal setting, share ideas and concerns and learn more about your community. Their July meeting will be 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Phillips United Methodist Church, 1450 S. Pierce St.

City Council Update


Monday, July 8: 7 p.m., Regular City Council Meeting.

Pending agenda items: Proclamation for Park and Recreation Month and presentation to provide disability awareness training. Council will consider a resolution to spend a grant to purchase a vehicle for the West Metro Drug Task Force, and it will consider setting the date for a public hearing for a request to rezone property at 3840 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Council will have a public hearing on proposed changes to parking and mini-warehouse regulations.

National Night Out
Neighborhoods throughout Lakewood are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 36th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Aug. 6. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Take a look at this video and register at Lakewood.org/NNO

Ballot Question 200 
Lakewood voters approved Ballot Question 200 to limit residential growth in the city, based on the unofficial results. Those results showed 53% voted for the question and 47% voted against it, with the results becoming official when they are certified. For updates on the official results, please visit Lakewood.org/SpecialElection.

History Happy Hour
The Heritage Center’s new History Happy Hour evening series continues on July 9. Join us in the Bonfils-Stanton Amphitheater for "Big Band July" from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy the smooth stylings of big band music from the 101st Army Dixieland Band while dancing the night away. Lakewood Tax Workshop
Let the experienced City of Lakewood tax professionals answer your business-related sales and use tax questions during the next tax workshop, 8:30-10:30 a.m. on July 10 at City Hall. These workshops cover what sales and use tax is, what is taxable, how to determine if use tax is due, how to complete a tax return and understand the complexities of the tax code. Sign up today.

Save on pool, recreation admissions

LCC Presents
The Lakewood Cultural Center has announced the LCC Presents 2019-2020 season, and it includes an exciting mix of music, dance and theater beginning in September. Season subscriptions and create-your-own packages are now available at Lakewood.org/LCCPresents.

Passport services
The City Clerk’s Office provides passport services by appointment only, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Photos are not available at this location, but please call 303-987-7085 to make an appointment. Learn more at Lakewood.org/passports.


New outdoor fitness pad
 
The new outdoor fitness pad at Carmody Recreation Center, 2200 S. Kipling St., is open and ready for you to get a great work out in the fresh air. Check out the hours at Lakewood.org/Carmody.

'Let's Talk' with Gov. Jared Polis
On the latest episode of “Let’s Talk with Mark Koebrich,” Gov. Jared Polis talks about his first few months in office and what he hopes to accomplish throughout the rest of his term. Watch it now.

Neighborhood grants
The Neighborhood Participation Program offers grants of up to $60,000 to qualifying Lakewood neighborhoods for projects residents believe will make a difference in their neighborhoods. Applications are available now for next year’s grants, which can fund items such as sidewalk connections, new playground equipment in neighborhood parks and public art. Subdivision approved
The planning director has approved a minor subdivision application for the property 8231 W. Mississippi Ave. to subdivide the lot into six lots. For more information, please contact Kara Mueller, project planner, at 303-987-7982 or karmue@lakewood.org.

Planning Commission hearings
Lakewood’s Planning Commission will have public hearings at its July 17 meeting to consider the following items:
  • Potential updates to the small animal regulations. 
  • A special use permit for property at 830 Wadsworth Blvd. to allow mini-warehouse storage.
  • An application for property at 6045 W. Mississippi Ave. to rezone it from the one-acre residential zone to two-family and small lot residential zone.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 480 S. Allison Parkway. Participate in person or online at LakewoodSpeaks.org.

Nighttime construction
The city will allow construction to occur at nighttime and on Sunday for the following projects:
  • Installing a new water line at South Carr Street from West Alameda Avenue to South Bayaud Avenue. The work will occur July 14-15 and will require lane closures. It will also close the entrance to the Kaiser medical facility.
  • Removing gas service at 599 S. Sheridan Blvd. The work will occur on July 11 and require lane closures.

First Friday, Plaza concert
Participate in a night of art, creativity and music. Tonight is the First Friday Art Walk in Belmar and the free concert on Belmar Plaza with Wendy Woo. The art walk starts at 5 and the concert at 6.

Lakewood Farmers' Market open
Get your fresh vegetables at the Lakewood Farmers’ Market, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays at 9077 W. Alameda Ave. Learn about other farmers’ markets in the city at Lakewood.org/LocalFood.

40 West First Friday
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., see whimsical birds and humans at EDGE Gallery from artist Sara-Lou Klein and a fiber art installation at NEXT Gallery from artist Karen Bennett. For more information about 40 West’s First Friday Art Walk, visit 40WestArts.org.

Lakes Appreciation Month
You fish and play on them. You may drink from them. But do you really appreciate them? Growing population, development, and invasive species stress your local lakes, ponds, and reservoirs.
