We are pleased to let you know about the pending sale of our building on Magdalen Road, subject to contract, with a hopeful completion date towards the end of the summer or early autumn and we are excited about the future use of the building. This means that we expect to move our activities to the Old Schoolhouse quite soon.
There has been a lot of hard work going on since our last update earlier this year, which we’d like to keep you informed about, including:
- finding buyers for our church building on Magdalen Road, as mentioned above,
- managing the processes involved in preparing our plans to redevelop the Old Schoolhouse,
- preparing to move our existing activities (church office, community groups, etc) from Magdalen Road to the Old Schoolhouse.
With regards to our revised planning application, we are pleased to report:
- Positive meetings with council officers who understand our vision and share many of our values for how buildings like this can and should go on serving the community for years to come.
- A constructive pre-meeting with planning officers on plans for redeveloping the Old Schoolhouse. This resulted in some suggestions from them on some further adjustments before submitting the final application, which we hope will be considered for approval later this year. As a part of this process we look forward to having another community consultation before re-submitting our plans.
We are planning to move everything from the chapel to the Old Schoolhouse so that activities, like Sunday evening services, Sunflowers, community groups and the church office, can start in the new location at the start of September. We will continue to meet in Meadow Lane on Sunday mornings until the redevelopment is completed.

Please join us to celebrate 140 years of ministry in the chapel
If you are free on Sunday the 11th of August, please come and join us as we say goodbye to the chapel, which has been our place of worship in, and service to, East Oxford for over 140 years. The service will be held at the chapel, 41a Magdalen Road, OX4 1RB from 10:30-12:30.
Working Bee – Saturday 20th July
In preparation for the move we’ve been running regular working parties at the Old Schoolhouse to help make the building suitable for use. Our next working bee will on Saturday 20th July from 10:30am to 3pm. It would be great if you could come along - feel free to drop in whenever you like between these times.
