The final program for the 2nd International Workshop of the Network for the Study of Environmental History of Turkey (NEHT) taking place at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey on 6-7 September 2019 is available here

The workshop includes the NEHT meeting, where we will discuss the upcoming workshop in 2021 and other future projects.
 

"Transforming Socio-Natures in Turkey: Landscapes, State and Environmental Movements" - a new edited volume by Onur İnal and Ethemcan Turhan is forthcoming with Routledge, in their Environmental Humanities series. The volume is an exploration of the environmental makings and contested historical trajectories of environmental change in Turkey.

2020 ASEH Conference
"Reparative Environmental History"

Ottawa, Canada, 25-29 March 2020

The American Society for Environmental History (ASEH) invites panel and paper proposals that consider environmental history in all periods and places, especially those concerning the theme of Reparative Environmental History.  

Proposals can be submitted through the ASEH online submission system by July 13, 2019. 

The ASEH 2020 conference in Ottawa next year is a great opportunity to make our presence felt and at the same time to present new research. We created a google spreadsheet to help form panels.

The Network for the Environmental History of Turkey (NEHT) endorsed the "Middle Eastern Animals: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Early Modern to Contemporary Times" workshop that was organized by the University of Vienna's Near Eastern Studies Department (Institut für Orientalistik).

Interview with Onur İnal and Yavuz Köse on Ottoman environmental history and Seeds of Power, a new book they edited (interview in German)

New Books in Environmental Studies is currently seeking hosts interested in conducting interviews with authors of new books on the environment and environmental history. Hosting the channel is a good way to bring the work of environmental scholars to the attention of large audiences. Interested parties should write Marshall Poe at marshallpoe@gmail.com.

Envirotech's website has a new address, envirotechhistory.org, as well as a refreshed look and, most importantly, a brand new and fully functioning Wordpress installation that will make it possible for us to add new content. 

Semih Çelik has been granted the Andreas Tietze Memorial Fellowship that is established by the University of Vienna's Near Eastern Studies Department  to commemorate the life and work of Andreas Tietze, an iconic twentieth-century Turcologist. For his project, "A Veritable Child of Vienna – despite the Turkish name’: Macarlı Abdullah Bey of Vienna and the Natural History Museum in Istanbul (1849-1874)", Çelik will work in the archives of the Natural History Museum Vienna.
