With all the earthquakes in southern CA recently, you may be a little concerned about your home and what if...?
If you are not aware, earthquake insurance (and flood insurance, defined as water entering your home from outside) are separate policies and are not included in your home owners or condo policy.
If you already have earthquake insurance, your coverage does not change.
If you are not sure if you have coverage, we can double check to see if you have an earthquake policy through our agency.
If you do not have coverage and are interested in starting a new policy, we can begin working on a quote for you. However, we are not allowed to start any new policies for the next 15-30 days due to a moratorium.
A couple items to keep in mind:
Not every insurance company works with the CEA (CA Earthquake Authority).
We do have a few other options for earthquake insurance.
The fine print on your home owners insurance policy: if your home burns down after an earthquake, your home owners insurance policy will cover you (not your earthquake policy). Here is a copy of the exact language from a sample policy:
Any other earth movement including earth sinking, rising or shifting;
caused by or resulting from human or animal forces or any act of nature, unless direct loss by fire or explosion ensues and then we will pay only for the ensuing loss.
If you are concerned, please know, we are too. Please email or call us with questions. We will work on a quote as soon as possible and start coverage once the moratorium has been lifted.
Sincerely,
Aaron
