Learn and Serve Day
Prairie Habitat at Marywood - July 8

There’s a new look of the Prairie Habitat at Marywood—an Urban Rain Forest! Ironweed about 6’ tall, Compass plant competing with the Bald Cypress tree for height! At the same time milkweed is doing just fine.

Your assistance on Monday, July 8, 9:30 – 11:30 AM is most welcome. Bring drinking water, hat, sturdy shoes or boots, tools such as a trowel, gloves, kneeling pad, and other things you think would be helpful.

Serving tasks around the perimeter (unless one wants to go into the interior):
• Clearing downed branches under the large willows
• Cutting/pulling timothy grass and daisy fleabane
• Cutting seed heads on mystery grass and purple nutsedge
• Clear weeds around coneflowers and others whose growth we want to encourage
• Cutting woody growth

Learnings will include:
• Growth or not of plants that were trimmed to reduce height;
• Identifying recent blossoming forbs and grasses, which love the site and which do not
• Determining whether seeds are ready for harvesting and possibly harvesting them
• Consider sites for new plants in August or September

Any questions, please write, call.  Thanks very much.
