Meeting Thursday July 11, 2019

Hello Everybody.

It's meeting time again, this Thursday, July 11, 7:30PM  at the usual place. Some of us have supper at the Firkin at about 6:00PM

I was at PMSC's rallycross on Saturday and I'll give a short report on that a little later. On upcoming events we have MLRC's Black Bear on July 13, our SNATR and BBQ on July 21 and our third rallycross on July 27. We're going to go Karting instead of our regular meeting on Aug. 8.   Rallycross #4 is on August 17 with registration opening July 17 at 6:00AM.

To expand on that list Black Bear needs both workers and competitors. As it stands now there are only five cars signed up for the event but I understand it will still go ahead. They are still short on workers and I`m sure they would appreciate the help.  https://www.mlrc.ca/blackbear/index.html

The following weekend is our annual BBQ and SNATR, this time on a Sunday afternoon. The SNATR has a working title of "The Grand Knights who say Nith" referring to the rivers we'll cross over several times. Details are at http://www.kwrc.on.ca/kw_events/snatr-3-2019/   and I could use a couple more checkpoint crews if anyone is available.

The week after that is our third rallycross of the year. Registration opened at 6:00AM on June 27 and by 9:00AM we were sold out. This one will be a bit different as we are running in the afternoon in the hope that avoiding the heat of mid day will keep the track moist and have less dust.

Thursday August 8 is our Karting night, I've posted details at  http://www.kwrc.on.ca/kw_events/august-meeting-karting/. It's free and we provide Pizza and Wings for supper. New this year is we need you need to fill out the Track's entry form online using the event code KWRC, but doing that will save you time at the track. Please let me know you are coming with this Google form

Saturday August 17 will be our fourth rallycross and registration will be at http://msreg.com/KWRC-17-Aug-2019, opening at 6:00AM on July 17. If the evening rallycross goes well in July we'll do the same thing again, I'll let everyone know what's going on after July 27.

Saturday August 24 is our fourth SNATR organized by Brandon running out of the Red Harp Pub in Acton. I'll update you on that next month.

Burnt River

As I mentioned earlier, I was at PMSC's RallyCross on Saturday. They use a road section on the Burnt River Off Road Vehicle Facility about 1.5km long then transit back to the start on another road. The "stage" road was unusually rough this time often paved with 3 inch stones. The course was shortened a bit due to a washout you could transit but didn't want to go through at speed.

If things work well you can get almost continuous running. It's much more like an actual stage than what we run at Humberstone, however there are pluses and minuses to that. It takes more workers since you can't see all of the course from a single point and if you have an off course excursion it could be more serious. As a famous Targa organizer said "for each mile of road we have two miles of ditches, and the ditches is where we store our rocks". The road is harder on the vehicles and I'd suggest some under-body shielding and rally tyres would be a good plan.

If you are planning on moving into rallysprint or full performance rally this is a great place to practice.  The course has several chicanes to keep the average speed down but is isn't as technical as we make Humberstone. Just like a performance rally it's not as spectator friendly; pick your corner and watch it for a while. Look out for bugs and Poison Ivy.  It it is a well run event and there were several KWRC members running. Results are at https://scoring.pmsc.on.ca/registrants.asp?eid=23
