Welcoming the stranger: working with global communities, locally.

Glocal Updates
Greetings,
Happy August! Days are starting to get shorter, the back to school buzz is going on, but yet there is still lots to do before we head into fall and winter. We have kept busy over the past month with a variety of things. The end of June was the one year anniversary of the Wiley Stabbing and with that came another round of emotions, both heartache and thankfulness for how much healing had happened. The family we have been walking with since that date continues to press forward and is hopeful for the wife/mother's full recovery yet knowing that will continue to take time. They finally are staying in a home together for the first time since the stabbing happened and that has been a HUGE blessing for them. They commented on how they all had the best sleep they have had in months. They are still not moved into their own home but we are hopeful that will happen before the end of August.
Now for some updates:
Baby Showers - Michelle continues to diligently arrange and pull off shower after shower. This year 22  women have been helped by the baby shower ministry and we still have 8 more women to host. Thank you all who have donated your time, homes, gifts, and money to this part of Glocal's ministry. It means so much to the families who are having babies in the U.S.A., most away from their family and the support that family brings. Please let Michelle know if you are interested in hosting a shower for a Mom and her friends. It's a delightful, easy way to get to know some of our New American Friends.
Donation Team - We are so thankful for the Glocal Donation Team. Since they started in late spring, they have helped over 15 families. They have been able to meet and love on families who have are new arrivals to Boise or experiencing hardships or just in need of furniture items. This team has great servant's hearts and work so well together hauling furniture all over the Treasure Valley. The picture is of the group who helped this past Wednesday clean out the Household Goods shed. The shed is the most organized it has been since we began!! If you have furniture donations, please contact Mary Lou Phillips at mlphillips2@cableone.net They can't always take everything as they are limited by storage space! Thanks!
Garden Update - If you haven't driven by (if you live in Boise) and seen the Glocal Garden lately, be prepared for a very full, lush green space. The gardneners have been hard at work and the garden looks amazing. So thankful for Carolyn's watch care over the garden and the relationships she has built with each family. This past week there was a work crew from Faith Community Bible Church who helped with cleaning up areas and adding mulch to spots. Over 20 people came and helped out on a hot summer day. Thanks for your help everyone!! The annual Garden Picnic is coming up soon. See below in upcoming events!

Glocal Needs
Glocal English Needs:
We plan to begin our English class again on Thursday mornings and can't do that without the help of many people. We have always been so thankful for the many volunteers that help with childcare, driving and teaching the ladies. If you are interested in helping (we always need drivers), let Laura know! It's a great way to get to know some of the really special ladies in our community. This will be our fourth year of Thursday Morning English! Prayers are always appreciated too!

Baby Showers
As mentioned above the Baby Shower program has been busy. Michelle says she is always in need of Diapers: Size Newborn and 1. Receiving blankets and Baby Towels are items that are needed right now.  Cash donations to buy pack and plays and strollers are also appreciated as those are the big ticket items. If wanting to donate cash, you can do so below through the donate button. Drop down to Glocal Community Partners and in the memo write Baby Showers.

Middle East Trip:
As an extension to the work of Glocal, Nick and Laura will be taking a team of people to the Middle East, the last week of September to mid-October. We are looking forward to this opportunity to meet and understand the plight of people who are living in a second country resettlement, both Syrians and Sudanese people. Many of the Syrians have now been in this country for over 6 years. Pray for our team-opportunities to see and understand, grow in our walks and to be a light in some very dark places. We will be joining field workers for a 4-fold project consisting of spending time with refugee ladies, presenting a kids program, visiting refugee families and helping with a medical clinic. If you are interested in learning more, let me know and I will send you our newsletter. We are also raising support to go on this trip. If you are interested in supporting us, please click on the Middle East Button below.
