Medical Marijuana Presentation: 1501-1503 Plainfield

Creston Neighborhood Association Land Use Committee
WEDNESDAY, July 10 6:45pm
Creston Neighborhood Association
Community Room
205 Carrier St NE, GR, MI 49505

A medical marijuana business, currently under the name of C3 Industries, hopes to locate at 1501-1503 Plainfield NE. This is currently Quality Vintage Collectibles and Henchmen House.

They have entered into an agreement to acquire that property and are planning to seek approval from the City for a medical marijuana provisioning center.  They have not yet submitted an application to the City of Grand Rapids, and seek community input now on their Good Neighbor Plan, which is part of the application.

A medical marijuana provisioning center could impact our neighborhood; other communities have seen an increase in traffic and parking concerns when a provisioning center comes to a neighborhood, and we may have ideas and concerns unique to our neighborhood.

CNA’s Land Use Committee will be hearing C3 Industries' plans on Wed., July 10 at 6:45pm.

The Good Neighbor Plan includes security, staffing/training, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design), and how they intend to interact with CNA, and Creston neighbors and area businesses.

Process

Once the City’s Planning Department approves initial applications, all medical marijuana provisioning center applicants must obtain a Special Land Use Permit from the Planning Commission.

They are also required to educate the public within a 350-foot radius of the property through at least one Community Education and Engagement event. CNA staff attend these events (for Creston locations) to gage neighbor sentiment. In some cases, CNA plays a larger role by collecting sign-in sheets and evaluations, and providing details about communicating with the Planning Commissioners.

The Land Use Committee meets with applicants and examines these plans, also taking into account the feedback obtained at Community Engagement events, and makes recommendations to the CNA’s Board of Directors. The Board then decides whether to contact the Planning Commission in support, opposition, or to state that CNA is remaining neutral.

Once the applicants are scheduled to go before the Planning Commission (this schedule is determined by lottery and the order in which the application was recieved), CNA notifies neighbors, in the very least, by social media.

We encourage people to send comments via email or letter at least nine days in advance if they wish their opinions to be included in the agenda packet that the Planning Commissioners receive the week before.

We also inform neighbors that anyone can speak before the Planning Commission for up to three minutes. These meetings take place at 1120 Monroe St NW on the 2nd floor every other Thursday and begin at 1pm.  https://www.grandrapidsmi.gov/Government/Boards-and-Commissions/City-Planning-Commission

You are invited to attend our Land Use Committee to learn about the plans at 1501-1503 Plainfield NE, the meeting is behind the building housing CNA’s office at --205 Carrier St. NE. C3 Industries will be presenting on July 10 from 6:45pm- 7:15pm.

Enter off the parking lot through the wooden-gated courtyard and into the building.

Barring any technical difficulties, this will be live-streamed on CNA’s facebook page.
