If you need to cancel your pass or banquet ticket, please contact us and provide as much information as you can. i.e. Type of pass (Adult, Senior/Student, or Youth), how purchased (PayPal, mail-in, Square), and when (at last year's festival, approximate month, etc.) If possible, forward us your PayPal receipt.This will help us locate your information faster.

Arriving at the Festival

The festival check-in area is located in the lobby of the Atrium building outside the Merchants Corner (Nakiska Ballroom). Please have photo ID ready to pick up your festival badge, Program Book, and Quick Guide. The check-in table opens on the festival Friday ~11 AM and remains open during daytime hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If there is a line-up and you need to be at a festival session, please attend your session and return to the check-in table for your materials at your earliest convenience. Festival 2020 registration will be available at the check-in table on Sunday.
If you are staying at the hotel, be sure to ask for breakfast vouchers when you check in. $10 for a hot breakfast buffet!

 
 
2019 Program

The schedule is now online! Lots to choose from every hour of the festival. Please do not print the information as a program book and quick guide will be waiting for you when you check in.

 
Master Classes
 
The manuscript workshops with Lisa Mangum and Leanne Shirtliffe are sold out. There is one space available in the James Alan Gardner Monday manuscript workshop. The remaining classes have no seat limit, so feel free to join. Details can be found in the PDF at:

Advance Signup Events

The Advance signup period had closed. There are still spaces available in some sessions. Pitch Sessions, Blue Pencil Cafe, Saturday Night Rapid Readings, Query Cafe, OnSpec Manuscript Review, consultations with Mark Leslie (Lefebvre), and the Go Indie Now! script writing contest.

If you are signed up for Blue Pencil. Query cafe, or Mansucript Review, please email us your manuscripts prior to August 1, so your editors have time to review them.
 

Shared Author Table

Authors attending the festival who have books for sale not available elsewhere in the Merchants' Corner are welcome to join the IFWA-sponsored cooperative booksellers' table. Bring a maximum of 3 titles to the IFWA table on Friday (or when you arrive) and sign up to work for an hour (or more) over the weekend. Display materials (stands, card cases, etc.) are in short supply; if you have your own, bring them! During your hour you will sell all books at the table, and you can do signings as well. Contact person is the same as previous years. If you haven't already signed up and don't have that information, contact us and we'll put you in touch.
 

Leaving the Page: Character Banquet

The banquet menu has been posted. Ticket-holders with dietary concerns should contact us so we can make substitutions with the hotel.

Dress as a character from your favourite book. Heroes, villains, and even aliens are welcome. From any era. Join us for an evening of networking with other readers and writers.
Theme dress is welcome, but not required. Banquet tickets may be purchased at time of registration or separately using the same form.

Hidden Art Show 2019
 
The Hidden Art Show is back for a second year in the Lake Louise Room on the 2nd floor of the Atrium building. A list of showing artists is now available:

Note: The hotel has remodeled their restaurants. Boomtown is now Southland Yard Bar and Table. Adults only ages 18+. Bonaventure Lounge is now Sage & CO Market & Bar, a family-friendly restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Check them out.
 

Public Events
 
If you cannot find a pass for this year's festival, or have friends who would like to check us out, we do have some free events open to the public.

1. Festival Guest readings. This year's festival guests
- James Alan Gardner, Jonas Saul, Kat Flannery, Leanne Shirtliffe, and Lisa Mangum - will be reading at the Fish Creek Public Library on Thursday Aug 8th from 7-9 pm. They will also be reading at the Delta Calgary South Hotel on Friday Aug 9th  from 1-3 pm in the Bonavista Ballroom (Tower Building).

2. Autograph Session. Our festival guests joined by 70+ attending authors will be signing books on Saturday Aug 10th from 8-10 pm in the Bonavista Ballroom (Tower Building).

3. Saturday Night Rapid Readings by attending authors. Sat August 10th from 7-9 PM in the Fireside Room (Tower Building).

4. Merchants Corner. Books by our festival guests and attending authors and publishers are available all weekend during daytime hours in our Merchant Room located in the Nakiska Ballroom (Atrium Building).

5. Hidden Art Show.
Works of art created by attending artists are available for viewing and purchase all weekend during daytime hours in our Hidden Art Show located in the Lake Louise room (Atrium Building, 2nd floor)

2019 Aurora Awards Ballot
 
The 2019 Aurora Awards ballot was announced on June 1st.  Go to:

for details. The voters’ package, containing almost all of the e-versions of the written works, is available for download. Voting begins on August 3rd.  Both voting and access to the voters’ package will close on September 14th.
 
To vote and download the voters’ package you must be a paid member of CSFFA (Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association). All Canadian citizens or landed immigrants are welcome, and encouraged, to participate. Download, read, vote for what you liked. Awards website:

CaRWA Romance Day, Sat Aug 17
 
Come celebrate the first (International!) Bookstore Romance Day on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019 at Owl’s Nest Books! Authors from the Calgary Association of the Romance Writers of America will be in the store all day to talk about everything romance, deliver oh-so-romantic readings, introduce you to Calgary’s thriving romance community, and offer free (five page) manuscript consults to aspiring romance authors. Author appearances, readings, signings, and fun-and-games (romance authors know the best games, trust us) throughout the day; the main event scheduled for 2 pm to 4 pm.
 
 
Writers in the House, Oct 12 - 14
 
Join Calgary area writers for a long Thanksgiving weekend of writing at the Delta Calgary South Fireside Room. Drop by any time between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Sat, Sun, and Mon for social writing.
