Our Vacation Bible School is next week, July 15-19, and the leaders shared some prayer requests for the church family:

  • Pray that God will use our Vacation Bible School to draw kids and their leaders closer to Him and to one another.
  • May we reach out to those who really need us.
  • May children experience God.
  • May the volunteering staff experience boundless joy serving in Vacation Bible School.
  • Pray that God will keep us safe.
This week and next, lift up in prayer the Vacation Bible School – its leaders, volunteers, and the kids from our church and community who will be attending.

Explore Los Angeles on a Women's Excursion and Walk

Saturday, July 20

Join the women of West Covina Christian Church on an excursion and walk through Los Angeles on Saturday, July 20. The women will be exploring University Village to The Fields LA with lunch at Philippe the Original.

Meet at the church at 9am or Union Station in DTLA at 10:30am. For information, see Diana Cho on Sunday.

On Saturday, July 27, the Harvesters/Seniors ministry is visiting the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda.

The presidential museum features 22 unique spaces that incorporate multimedia and interactive technologies. Visitors begin their journey in the new Malek Theater and enjoy a 13-minute orientation film before entering the permanent galleries in the “Wave of Change” gallery, which covers a period of great upheaval throughout the 1960s and during the months leading up to the November 1968 presidential election. Travel through President Nixon's presidency and resignation and return to his origins in the “Back to the Beginning” gallery. From there, travel through Nixon’s life prior to becoming the 37th President of the United States. The journey ends with Richard Nixon’s post-presidency period, his impact on American culture, a solemn remembrance of Mr. and Mrs. Nixon’s memorial services, and the short “Epilogue” film at the conclusion of the exhibit.

The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is also home to the gardens, the Birthplace of Richard Nixon, and the Presidential Helicopter.

For more information, see Audrey Sakamoto.

Concert of Prayer

Pillowcases for Cancer Patients

Saturday, August 10 • 9am-3pm

A hospital stay can be a terrifying experience for a child – especially those with cancer and other life-changing illnesses. Recent research indicates 20% of children who are hospitalized with cancer and 30% of their mothers suffer full symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These rates are comparable to that experienced by U.S. War Veterans serving since the Vietnam War. The good news is trauma can be minimized and outcomes improved through experiences that reduce stress.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles (formerly ConKerr Cancer) was founded in 2007 to bring comfort and support to young patients and their families in hospitals around the globe. The group started with a simple goal: to create and distribute whimsical pillowcases that give children an emotional boost and remind them that they are not defined by their illness.

Making these pillowcases has proven to be very rewarding. In the past, as we have gathered to stitch, cut, iron, as well as paint and calligraphy greeting tags, we have made impressive numbers of cases. Come one and all genders and ages. For additional information contact Danielle Hoxie and Emi Iwanaga.

Our annual FunFest is a couple of months away on Sunday, September 15. Our Social and Fellowship Team has already started planning and they need your help. The team is looking for deep-fryers and prizes for our BINGO game. If you are able to help us out, see Marisa Martinez next Sunday.
