Dear <<First Name>>

Welcome to the July edition of Voluntary Voice....
As usual it’s been a busy month with lots going on at York CVS. One of the key developments has been lots of conversations with GPs regarding the new Social Prescribing Link Workers. We will be working closely with GPs across York to provide Social Prescribers through our Ways to Wellbeing Service and hopefully by late summer every part of York will have access to a worker. Adverts for four new posts will be going out shortly so keep an eye out for them.

You will see from the newsletter we are planning more events to get the sector together to hear about challenges in York; I’m particularly looking forward to the Armed Forces Community Event on 30 July where we will be discussing the needs of the Armed Forces community and how we can work together to address them. The fish and chip supper before the meeting is an added bonus to what promises to be an interesting evening.

It also appears that AGM season is now upon us – I find these are a great way for us to hear about the work of an organisation, so please invite me along!

Meet the York CVS Team
Over the next few issues of Voluntary Voice we'll be introducing our Team here at York CVS and highlighting some of the projects we manage. This month we'd like to introduce Emma Williams and Anna Harrison who work on two of our projects, Time to Change and York Dementia Action Alliance...
P.S. You can meet the whole York CVS team over on our website.
Time to Change

Hi, I'm Emma and I am the new Time to Change Co-ordinator. Time to Change York is a new local campaign to end mental health stigma and discrimination for our residents and visitors of York (we're also part of the wider national and global Time to Change campaign!). We do this through people sharing their personal lived experiences of mental health problems at any scale, whether formally diagnosed or not, and in a variety of settings, such as through everyday conversations, online via blogs and social media, and in the workplace.

Join us for a cuppa...
Please join us for a cuppa on Wednesday 7 August (10:00 - 12:00) at the Priory Street Centre, to find out about Time to Change York and to influence our work. Everyone is invited, residents, health professionals, education providers, clubs and societies, large employers, and small local businesses, because no one should feel ashamed to talk about mental health! If you're not able to attend but would like to find out more, please email Emma at: timetochange@yorkcvs.org.uk

York Dementia Action Alliance
Hello, I'm Anna, the new York Dementia Action Alliance Co-ordinator. York Dementia Action Alliance (YDAA) encourages individuals, services, businesses and organisations in York to work towards being dementia friendly and accessible to all. We also work with local dementia charities and organisations to listen to the views of people living with dementia, and carers, to inform change within the city, because we want York to be a great place to live and visit for people with dementia and their supporters.

If you would like to join our mailing list, become a member of the Alliance or require further information, please email me at: dementia-action@yorkcvs.org.uk or call: 01904 621133. We're also on Twitter, you can follow us @York_DAA

We've been thinking about Christmas...
We know, we know, it's only July but we do like to plan ahead! We'd really like your thoughts on York CVS hosting a potential voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector Christmas dinner. We'd like to organise an event to bring organisations and their volunteers together for an evening of celebration and, of course, a delicious three-course Christmas dinner. We'd really appreciate it if you could complete this really short survey to let us know what you think.

Students showcase volunteering in York
We teamed-up with students from the University of York to work on a project to showcase VCSE organisations in York and to celebrate volunteering in all its forms. The students worked in teams to interview organisaions to explore the importance of volunteers and to find out how organisations could attract more volunteers. The students presented their findings to us at the end of June and expressed how much they enjoyed the project. We'll be highlighting some of this work at our Annual General Meeting in October.

Third Sector Trends Survey 2019 now live
Voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises from across the North of England are being asked to contribute to a 10 year study of the sector. Whether your organisation or group is large or small, your views and responses are vital to building a picture of the sector. The results of the survey will help inform national and local government, health organisations and charitable foundations so that they can make good decisions on how to invest in the activity of the sector.
