SREB Summer Conferences Rock Baltimore

Over 3,000 educators were energized at SREB’s school improvement summer conferences in more than 500 sessions earlier this month in Baltimore. Next year’s conference will be July 7-10 in New Orleans. See what attendees said on Twitter under hashtags #2019MSW and #2019CCRS.

Clinical Training for Teachers: Promising Practices and the State's Role

NURSING EDUCATION

Nursing Career Pathway Set For Fall

WellStar Health System and a coalition of partners is launching a streamlined career pathway to nursing credentials with local Georgia schools and colleges.The initiative is an industry-driven effort to address the shortage of students entering nursing-related careers. “This is a real model for how schools, colleges and businesses can come together to forge clear pathways,” said SREB President Stephen Pruitt.

SREB PARTNERSHIPS

SREB-Marshall STEM Partnership Gets Underway

The Marshall University Foundation has been awarded a $50,000 planning grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to expand science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics opportunities in Huntington, West Virginia, and to update a statewide high school STEM program. The grant is a collaboration among Marshall's engineering and art programs, the SREB Advanced Career program and the Office of Career and Technical Education at the West Virginia Department of Education.

EARLY MATH

Early Math Matters

Every student needs to build a strong foundation in mathematics during early childhood and the early grades. This means elementary teachers must be well-prepared to teach math when they enter the profession and continue to improve through professional development.

A new report from SREB explains why early math learning is so important and how teachers and students can overcome the hurdles of math anxiety. It also details the current state of math instruction and offers recommendations for educator preparation, professional development and ways to address dyscalculia and math anxiety.
