Dear friends,

Supporting education has always been a cornerstone of our company’s social responsibility activities. We included updates on our scholarships programme for university students in the previous newsletter, but our support for academic and professional development of young people across the country extends further than that. In this month’s issue, we feature some of the internships and practical training programmes for students – as they say, practice makes perfect, and we are devoted to pursuing perfection in timber!
Also in this issue:

  • Tomorrow’s Forest: Maintenance works are progressing fast on all areas. The 350,000 seedlings planted so far look very well!
  • #HSPeople: A charming profile of Gheorghe Baltatescu, technical mill manager at Holzindustrie Schweighofer Baco in Comanesti
  • Partnerships: An open and transparent relation with our partners is key for our common success.

Have a pleasant reading!

Kind regards,
Luciana Petrescu

Practice makes perfect

Each year, dozens of students – both high-school and university – come to our mills to get precious work experience. We already told you about the Schweighofer Scholarship recipients in our June issue, but many others benefit from the Schweighofer learning experience year after year.

🎓 For instance, at Radauti, we have quite a tradition in receiving students from the University of Suceava, who complete practical trainings in various departments, from office and administration, to human resources, to production sectors. Internships ‘for real’ lead to success stories – we have an example right here.

👷 We also told you about our vocational education project in MoineÈ™ti quite a few times in the past – that’s because we’re proud of it and its outcomes.  It taught us a lot, and it’s now branching out in several directions: this year we received additional VE students in our mills and we’re starting out a new dual education project next autumn!

Tomorrow’s Forest

Tomorrow’s Forest is not only about planting seedlings, but also about growing them strong: we committed to providing all maintenance costs for a period of seven years since the very beginning. We visited the project in Dumbrăvița, Brașov county, where we planted 100,000 seedlings, and we are happy to announce that the little sessile oaks and ash are thriving, as you can see in the photo above. Currently, maintenance works are in progress on all the planted areas. On some they are already completed. Following up: further works in September! Check the progress on the project’s website.

#HSPeople

Having joined our blockboard factory in Comănești at just 19, Gheorghe Bălțătescu has already spent half his life there. He started from the bottom and grew up, learning products, machines, and people, and now he is the technical mill manager of the plant. He never forgot where he came from, however: read his story on the company blog!

Partnership

An open, transparent relationship with our partners is the foundation of any successful collaboration. That’s why we were delighted to receive a large delegation from Germany and Belgium, who earlier this month visited our blockboard factory in Comanesti, HS Baco, as well as our sawmill in Reci.
