Recovery Walk 2019

Tim writes... 'The walk is going well so far, it's been raining however so our feet have been wet for most of the time! Spirits are good though and the St. Nic's  Recovery group are getting to know the guys from PadB, sharing stories and experiences.  It's been quite a challenge but we are on track to complete the walk at Holy Island on Saturday.  Thanks for your support and prayers!'
Still time to support the St. Nic's Recovery Group and make a donation via the CAF website. Click here.

The first will be our family service and the third Sunday we will continue our Theology for All series.

July 21st - Theology for All
"God's Poetry: The Stranger Side of Scripture and Why it Matters"
Guest Speaker: Richard Rohlfing
At least 35-40% of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) can be described as poetry or poetic, with 30 of the 39 books containing important or extensive sections of poetry. Yet, what difference does this make? Does this poetry matter theologically…and, if so, how? In this short talk we will discuss several features of Biblical Hebrew poetry with scriptural examples and reflect on how these characteristics work – to involve us more deeply and affectively, to reveal both our hearts and God’s in ways that are at once troubling and ultimately wonderful, life-giving.

Not meeting in August - Family Service

St. Nics Daily Prayer Diary

Sunday – For those in physical or spiritual poverty. For the homeless and rough sleepers in Durham. That we may recognise Christ in them and have both the wisdom and courage to respond with love and justice.

Monday – For the work of the Recovery Group. For Tim & Fay Biddlecombe who lead it, those who attend and for Dick Swarbrick and others on the support group. For those who suffer from and battle with addiction.

Tuesday – Pray for, Jeff Hatton and the work of the Coffee Lounge and all the volunteers and guests who attend.

Wednesday – Pray for The Gateway Shop & Trust, for Hazel and Ruth  and the others who work in the shop. For those who are supported through the work of Gateway and for the ongoing discussions with the trustees for the future ministry of Gateway.

Thursday – For the global church. For the persecuted church across the world. For the church in Burundi and Lesotho with whom our diocese is linked. For our international mission partners across the world.

Friday – For Cranmer Hall, those who lead, teach and study there. For Philip Plyming & Emma Parker. For those discerning a call to ordained ministry and those both lay and ordained  struggling with the ministry to which they are called. That God might strengthen them in their walk and discipleship.

Saturday – Pray for Mariava and Kate in the office, our housekeeping staff Becky, Claire and Ben and for Chris who keeps the church well maintained and cared for. For those who enable our worship on Sunday – those who play music, operate a/v and sound desks, the welcome team, the flower team, coffee makers, intercessors, those who read the lesson, those who enable our celebration of Holy Communion.
