News from the North:
Happy Canada Day & Happy 4th of July!

Canada Day and July 4th – our birthdays – are times of reflection... (of course, they are also occasions to celebrate!) In looking back, Canada and the U.S. both commemorated the 70th anniversary of NATO and the 75th anniversary of D-Day this year, important milestones in our security partnership. Moving forward, whether through a modernized trade agreement, initiatives aimed at making our border safer and more efficient, or working together to make the world more secure and more prosperous, we know we will be stronger together.

The Embassy and Consulates General across the United States celebrated Canada Day earlier this week. Major General Simon Hetherington emphasized our close security partnership in Minneapolis. In New York, Constable Laura Adams with the RCMP chatted with people in the city and quizzed them on their Canadian knowledge. And in Washington, DC, the Embassy hosted a pancake breakfast with live music from Nova Scotian Celtic duo Cassie and Maggie, a rooftop beach ball toss, and a reminder from our Deputy Ambassador that Canada made history this year: a Canadian team, the Toronto Raptors, won the NBA Championship!

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visits Washington, DC

Our trading relationship with the United States was front and center when Prime Minister Trudeau met with President Trump and Congressional leaders in late June. But USMCA ratification wasn’t the only item on the agenda given the depth and breadth of the bilateral relationship. The Prime Minister also had a friendly wager to settle with Speaker Pelosi over the Toronto Raptors’ victory in the NBA Championship. Read more about the visit.
