Is Positive Collaboration Possible Between Aid and Mobile Sectors?

Tech Salon UK
London, UK - July 8 - RSVP Now
Collaboration across sectors is critical to achieving impact and improving our progress towards meeting the SDGs.  Aid organizations are taking baby-steps towards collaborating across sectors, donors, geographies, and the private sector.

What about collaborating with mobile network operators?

We all know of success stories with organizations such as DIAL and its call to action on collaboration, and the GSMA, which granted £6.5 million over the last year. We’ve also heard the many social-impact stories at big events. However, where is the real win-win on the ground with governments, aid programs, and mobile network operators?

For example, we all may love M-PESA (for all the wrong reasons), but Safarcom is no saint to rural women and its Sh63.4 billion net profits are greater than Kenya’s government spending on health and education combined. Where are the pro-poor vs. pro-profit collaborations there?

Please RSVP now to explore if positive collaborations are possible, and if so, how to develop them at the next Technology Salon London. We’ll look for answers to questions like:
  • Where are the aid-friendly MNOs and how to we curate more?
  • How can aid and mobile sectors find shared goals and incentives?
  • What examples of best-practice collaboration can we learn from?
  • Who is at the leading edge of innovation and want are they learning?
  • Are there quick-wins that we can accomplish now that lead to larger impact?
Please RSVP now to join an intimate, curated group of leading voices from across the aid and telecoms sector, including these thought leaders: We'll have hot coffee and catered breakfast treats for a morning rush but seating is limited so please RSVP now.  Once we reach our 30-person capacity there will be a waiting list!

About the Technology Salon

The Technology Salon™ is an intimate, informal, and in-person, discussion between information and communication technology experts and international development professionals, with a focus on both:
  • Technology's impact on donor-sponsored technical assistance delivery, and
  • Private enterprise driven economic development, facilitated by technology.
Our meetings are lively conversations, not boring presentations. Attendance is capped at 35 people - and frank participation with ideas, opinions, and predictions is actively encouraged.

It's also a great opportunity to meet others motivated to employ technology to solve vexing development problems. Join us today!
