Summer is an amazing time to learn and build community connections.

Today, we come together and enjoy some quality, outdoor time at our first Film in Tacoma Picnic; and theres still time to sign up for our education opportunities for adults, all happening this summer!

Did you know that The Grand Cinema hosts a networking group for filmmakers and entrepreneurs? Learn more about Film In Tacoma here, and join us for a picnic this month!

Come together at this informal, drop in picnic with local filmmakers and creators, share food, drink, and fun! Bring your own picnic basket and blanket; families are welcome.

This is an opportunity to meet other filmmakers, share your ideas, and relax in Wright Park with fellow creative folk.

Find us near the W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory. When facing the Conservatory, we'll be off to the right!

This summer, The Grand Cinema hosts our first ever Screenwriting Workshop, and the second annual Production Intensive for Short Narrative Films.

Be prepared for an intergenerational experience; attendees will range from college students, working professionals, and seniors, bringing an incredible diversity of perspectives and experience to your learning.

SCREENWRITING 101 led by Coral Untalan
Meets weekly on Thursdays July 11, 18, 25, and August 1, 6:30 - 8:30 PM with a final reading and potluck August 10, 12 PM. 
Cost to register: $125


Meeting once a week for five weeks, participants will develop and finalize a film script. Each class consists of learning and practicing new skills to be applied to your scripts and an assignment, due the following class. Students will work on the same script or scripts throughout the class, using their new skills to add to and edit their work.

Class concludes with a potluck and script reading for each student. Students and instructor will provide constructive feedback, and finally, the instructor will provide written feedback to students one week after the final gathering.
PRODUCTION INTENSIVE: NARRATIVE FILM led by Jason Ganwich
August 12 - 16, August 19 - 23, 4 - 8 PM, with a Friends & Family screening August 24, 10 AM. 
Cost to register: $400 (payment plans available)


This two week program focuses on the full production of short narrative films: working in film crews, you will develop a story, shoot, then complete post production and editing. The intensive provides introductory instruction in digital filming, story development, writing, editing, lighting, audio, and sound. Filmmakers of all levels of experience are invited to learn, collaborate, create, and share their stories.

The daily schedule for the is 4 - 8 PM Monday through Friday for both weeks, with a Friends & Family Screening Saturday at 10 AM.
