When most people think of Hawaii, they naturally think of bright rainbows, big waves and beautiful beaches. Indeed, that is accurate. However, every town, every culture, has its lore and tragedies. Hawaii is no different. This past February, I was able to escape the chilliness of the mainland to head out to a place I once called home - Oahu. Though the trip may have been centered around bringing the love of my life to my favorite places in order to propose ( SHE SAID YES!), we still took a ghost tour from the wonderful guide, Lopaka Kapanui. With a rainbow over Diamondhead Mountain, it’s easy to overlook Kapiolani Park where, like the haunted Gettysburg battlefields, the screams of ancient battles are still heard along with the visual apparitions of Hawaiian warriors.
The goddess Pele appears on cliffs over Makapu'u Beach (one of my own personal favorite haunts). This area is also home to the flying God who manifests giant fireballs over the ocean, called Akua’lele. Clicking the image will take you to more images of this site.
