Message from the Mayor

Welcome to the July community e-newsletter. I am very pleased to report that we are well underway with the FOGO rollout and take this opportunity to thank all residents for their cooperation this week.

You would have received information about the rollout and instructions on what to do this week with your current bins, as well as the schedule for bin collection next week and following weeks – more information is in the e-newsletter.
Construction of the toilet in Glasson Park is underway. Safety fencing has been erected around the construction area but the balance of the Park will be available for public use.
Don't forget, businesses are invited to join us for our Business to Business event at the end of July. We have provided information about litter and illegal dumping and there is also an update on parking lines and signs.
In "Meet the Staff" this week, we feature Linda McNab, our Human Resources Coordinator. Happy reading.

Meet the Staff - Linda McNab, Human Resources Coordinator

Hello I am Linda McNab, HR Coordinator here at the Town of East Fremantle. People close to me know that family is very important to me. As the eldest of five, and only female, I host regular large gatherings at our little house in Beaconsfield, with its lovely big backyard full of various types of citrus trees, and an olive tree.  Joining those events are the chooks, cat and dog.

Career Experience – I have worked as an HR practitioner for over 20 years, mostly in the higher education sector, where I started in payroll and worked my way through the ranks to my last 9 years as an HR Manager.    In September 2017 I was privileged to be offered the HR Coordinator role at the Town of East Fremantle, which is my first experience in local government.   During the last 18 months the organisation has undergone a great deal of change, with the emphasis on delivering great customer service, underpinned by our newly embedded values, RITE – Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Empathy.  I am very fortunate to work with a senior executive group that is committed to developing a positive workforce culture and I feel very optimistic about the direction we are heading.

Role at the Town - As Coordinator Human Resources, I am responsible for the management of the HR functions, including recruitment, organisational development, industrial and employee relations, performance management, training and development, and change management.  My role also includes the OSH and FOI responsibilities.   The success of any organisation is its workforce, and as the HR Coordinator it is important that my role supports the Senior Executive group with strategies to increase employee engagement, enabling a culture of high performance.

Let's Go FOGO - Rollout Underway - Thank you for your Cooperation

The FOGO bin system  rollout is well underway and on schedule to be completed at the end of this week.
Thank you to all residents for your cooperation and patience. Most of you would have received your new bins, with your old general waste bin being removed and taken away for recycling  - this too should be completed by Saturday 6 July.

Bin Collections - What Bins to Put Out - New Collection Commences Monday 8 July
From Monday 8 July, FOGO collection will begin.  Please ensure your bins are out on your regular collection day.  To help with the first few weeks, we have listed below what bins to put out.  Details are also in your new Waste and Recycle Calendar and we have placed in advertisements in the local newspapers.  Also look out for a flyer in your letterbox as a reminder for July.
  • Week commencing 8 July -  FOGO Bin and General Waste Bin
  • Week commencing 15 July - FOGO Bin and Recycling Bin
  • Week commencing 22 July - FOGO Bin and General Waste Bin
  • Week Commencing 29 July - FOGO Bin and Recycling Bin
The Town has placed a number of electronic message boards around the Town as reminders, but if you are in doubt please contact the Town on (08) 9339 9339 via email admin@eastfremantle.wa.gov.au

For more information, check your Calendar - this would have come in your kitchen caddy or go to our 'Lets Go FOGO' web page and download the Calendar

FOGO stands for Food Organics Garden Organics and refers to the weekly collection of food scraps, as well as natural material from your garden.  A handy way to think about FOGO is ‘If it didn’t grow, it’s not FOGO’

More information can be found on the Town's website here

Litter and Illegal Dumping on Verges

The Town of East Fremantle encourages residents and visitors to help keep our Town clean and litter free. The illegal dumping of waste or litter in bushland or on road verges is an offence under the Litter Act 1979 and can result in hefty fines. Our Rangers are able to investigate incidents of littering and/or illegal dumping where evidence of an offender is provided or an offender can be identified.

Please report any litter to the Town via phone 9339 9339 or admin@eastfremantle.wa.gov.au

Help us keep our Town tidy with these tips:

  • Deposit litter in a bin
  • Report illegal littering to the Town 9339 9339
  • Ensure goods carried on trailers, utes and trucks are covered and properly secured.
  • Report abandoned vehicles to the Town 9339 9339
  • Don't deposit commercial or domestic waste in public rubbish bins.
  • Don't put residential bulk waste on your verge more than 10 days prior to collection. There may be instances where approval is granted to leave bulk waste on the verge more than 10 days in advance - please contact the Town to clarify.
  • Don't remove shopping trolleys from shopping centre car parks.
  • Don't let building waste affect your neighbours.

Illegal dumping is the placement of anything on the verge without approval from the Town - that includes excess furniture from moving house;  clean out of garages and sheds and placing items out for 'voluntary verge collection'.

Remember - East Fremantle residents have access the Fremantle Recycling Centre and can drop off bulk goods to the Recycling Centre during opening hours - see article below.
